t was a busy day for "aggressive elk" in Harstad, with police reporting two separate incidents within a four hour span.
A group of daycare children’s afternoon took a turn for the dramatic in Harstad on Tuesday when what police described as “an aggressive elk†ran toward the kids while they were out on a walk.
In true rugged Norwegian fashion, the quick-thinking kids were able to quickly put the animal in its place, according to a Nordland police spokeswoman.
“The kids threw snowballs at it or something like that,†Grete Birkeland told Dagbladet.
Birkeland said that she thinks the very same elk gave a female shopper a scare outside of a Harstad store over the weekend.
Earlier in the day on the other side of town, police reported another “aggressive elkâ€, but this one was fought off with more than snowballs.
“There was someone in a housing estate who felt threatened. Now it has been confirmed that [the elk] was shot by the local wildlife committee,†Birkeland told Dagbladet.
As for the daycare kids, they obviously weren’t much bothered. When Dagbladet tried to reach the institution for a comment, the kids were still out on their walk.

Repelling elk with snowballs. Sounds aggressive to me.. The elk deserve a fair shake. Although I prefer it roasted.

Elk or Elg in Scandinavia are basically Moose. By all means now proceed with cheese and bitten sister posts.
