Hey Freepers!
What are your cough remedies?
I've had a persistent and overwhelming cough since December.
I've been to multiple doctors, been on anti biotics, had all kinds of cough syrups and drops. Nothing seems to stop it.
Anyone have a home remedy? Thanks in advance!
Definitely Mold. Ear wax in the wrong part of the ear canal can do that, too.
Hot apple cider spiced with cloves and a shot of tabasco.
Evidently not the problem in this case, but I don’t understand why lisinopril is prescribed instead of the angiotension-II inhibitors like losartan, which have other protective effects. There is some cost difference, I know.
If it’s from a drip, Mucinex is awesome.
Had something similar a few years back - started bad for about a week, gradually became less severe pretty much day by day -finally gone after about two months - time was the cure....
I lost my immunity to Mold about 10 years ago. I coughed for months. It started from a leak in the roof which after we left the house I had fixed by someone else. I also bought an Electronic Air Purifier. Afterward I found out that they produce Ozone which also triggers coughing fits in me LOL. I went to an Allergist/Asthma Doctor and got started on shots. BTW allergic reactions like coughing can closely mimic Asthma especially if Ozone is involved. On the Air Quality Alert days I have to stay inside as much as possible.
Honey and cinnamon.
Mix about a tablespoon of cinnamon with 1.5 tsp. of honey. Eat. Do this whenever you feel symptoms of a cold.
I don’t think anyone else has suggested that, although I might have missed it. I bet it would work on certain coughs, and I’m going to try it the next time I get one.
My first question would be have you seen your physician? I had a persistent cough that I ignored for quite while only to find out that it wasn’t a simple persistent cough, but pneumonia. Eight months later I didn’t ignore it when it came back and sure enough it was pneumonia again.
To raise your immune system you need to help the good bacteria in your system. The antibiotics can be lifesavers in a crisis, but they can deplete your good bacteria.
Easy ways: fermented foods. Start small, a tablespoon of real fermented kimchi or sauerkraut (look for real live sauerkraut at health food stores) at one meal, etc. get high quality healthy yogurt (most are useless). Kefir is good and will make a nice smoothie with frozen fruit, honey. If you can afford a good probiotic, try a soil based one, like Prescript Assist. It saved my life once so I trust that brand, but there are others.
Next, how to feed the good bacteria you will be slowly colonizing? They love starches. Especially resistant starches. Potatoes are ok, enjoy them, but if you cook and cool them, this increases greatly the resistant starch. Meaning, potato salad better than a baked potato. Also, bake or boil some starchy red skinned potatoes, then the next morning, slice them and pan fry them til brown with butter for breakfast potatoes. White rice is also good starch, but contains far more resistant starch if cooked and cooled. So go for sushi or rice pudding... Oatmeal is good too.
Sleep is essential for a good immune system, but hard when you cough. Ask the doc for a codeine cough syrup and use it JUDICIOUSLY. In other words, don’t use it unless absolutely necessary. Take a tsp if you can’t fall asleep due to the coughing. Take a tsp if you wake up and can’t fall back asleep coughing. Max 2 per night, and try to not use any. You don’t need to be addicted, or to feel dull the next day (which you will a bit). However, one tsp usually does me for the whole night when I am sick.
Good luck. I am just getting over the two week coughing cold from hell itself. Used the codeine syrup for 6 nights. Glad to be off it.
Pepcid twice a day
Mine was from too much stomach acod
Coltsfoot tea flavored with honey. If you want the easy way, Fisherman’s Friend cough drops.
Start taking colloidal silver from the health food store (250 ppm) and you can also get these herbal cough drops called Pastilles which don’t taste very good but really work. We have had that terrible cold with hacking cough for over 3 weeks now. We also took the CVS CF cough syrup. If you are taking g an expectorant cough syrup it makes you cough.
Hope you get rid of it.
Do you have allergies?
A spoonful of honey after a gargle of warm water and cayenne pepper - shaken not stirred. Seriously. DH gargles with warm water and cayenne whenever there is a throat, cough issue felt coming on strong. It helps a great deal.
Pound in another nail and stop the coffin.
