TRUE: In February 2016, a rumor started circulating online that Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz had said that he was a "Christian first" and an "American second." While these words were a genuine quote from the Texas, they were typically presented in a manner that lacked context. The quote first appeared in a 20 January 2016 article by Politico about a campaign stop Cruz made in New Hampshire. Cruz was asked to respond to comments that former Kansas senator Robert Dole had made to the New York Times in a recent interview questioning Cruz's loyalty to the GOP, and he responded by saying that his allegiance to the United States and to conservative principles trumped his party membership (and that his commitment to his religion ranked higher than them all): ["It is exactly right that in terms of who I am, I am a Christian first. I am an American second. I'm a conservative third. And I'm a Republican fourth. And I'll tell ya, there are a lot of Americans who feel the same way."] We've found no video that captured this remark from Cruz, but the quote was also documented by the Washington Post. Cruz has made no secret of his plans to court conservative Christians during his presidential campaign.  He announced his run in March 2015 at Christian college Liberty University, saying he hopes to fight the federal government's "assault" on religious liberty, and he also pledged to "defend the sanctity of life" and "uphold the sacrament of marriage."

Good for Ted.
See Beitbart
I am looking for someone who puts AMERICA first. Cruz would make a good second rate preacher.
I would be for overturning the activist judges who told us we should have homosexual marriage, but if Trump or Cruz gets in , or anyone can anyone ever see this being overturned now?
God, Country, Corps.
What is the problem?
I am very bothered by what his campaign did, and he himself might be behind it, but what law was broken???
Christianity demands that it be first above everything else.
Is someone expecting America to transcend Heaven?
If you don’t have God you cannot do right by America.
Breitbart told you that or was it Beitbart?
Any andidate who woul ddare try to use this fact aginst Cruz is going to get hammered.
You are describe the Lump more than Ted Cruz
I don’t think Cruz is behind a CNN report
>> I am looking for someone who puts AMERICA first.
Ahead of Jesus CHRIST?
No, Ted has the order just right. That’s a big reason I support him.
What’s right and good for the Kingdom of GOD is also right and good for America.
Its God and Country...
nothing wrong with what Cruz said if he said he was a Christian and then an American...
And yet, “conservatives” on FR will take issue with this. Sad.
I think any good Christian believes this way.
What if the USA declared Satanism to be the Established religion, would a Christian worship him? Given the collapse of morality and disregard of the Constitution this may not be as far-fetched as it might seem. Bowing at the alter of faggotry is already a blight on the land.
These breathless attacks on the candidates need to stop, particularly the silly ones like this.
Huh? ‘splain that for me, Lucy.
Another hyphenated citizen!
America is disappearing right before our eyes.
