You might be a woman looking for your first self-defense handgun. Or you might be a lifelong "gun person" that people come to for advice about guns. Either way this article is for you.
Every day, people who have never owned any sort of gun -- perhaps have never even shot one -- decide to get a self-defense handgun. They aren't gun people, they aren't going to become gun people, they aren't going to hunt or target shoot, they aren't going to practice a lot. But they want a home-defense handgun, and they want one suitable for concealed carry if they decide to go that route. In other words they want an effective, easy to use, easy to carry, all-around self-defense handgun.
After all the pluses, minuses, caveats, ifs, ands, and buts are factored in -- this is my bottom-line gun recommendation, along with the reasons for it. This article presupposes that the prospective gun owner is healthy, of normal intelligence or better, and has no inherent fear of guns.
Long-time gun users will undoubtedly find the selection process interesting, and may wish to use this article as a basis for their own recommendations.
In any case, don't be put off because I start with some basics -- it's only a few paragraphs, and they're necessary for clarity.

Not even a holster that can fit in the back by your spine. Sorry I don’t have the name. That’s what I’m looking for.
Get a 649 - shrouded hammer and stainless. Get an older one and the hammer and trigger were chromed. I was very sad when I started to rust my virginal Model 36 when I lived in Florida.
I bought my first 36 when I was stationed on the Lex in Pensacola. I tried to go shooting at least once a week. I know I put over 5,000 cast 3.2gr Bullseye loads thru it. It won’t rust if you’re always using it.
Thanks, I will check them out. Been thinkin about the Glock 26.
Small of the Back holster, several makers offer them.
Easily operated with one hand, unlikely to malfunction, no detachable magazine required, enough capacity to handle the vast majority of defensive gun use scenarios, just enough -and in the case of .357 PLENTY - of caliber, and small/light enough to carry in a bewildering variety of locations.
I love my autos, but more often than not the scandium J frame is what I have with me.
THANKS!
Any time fellow class of 2000.
Yes I prefer my 229 SA/DA, its a bit large tho for carrying around all the time
Everyone should have at least two handguns: a small one that would be concealable under just about any circumstance, and a larger one for times when you are going places with higher-than-average risk of needing it.
Plus, you know that, if you ever have to use it to protect yourself, the police will take it as evidence, so you should have a spare.
Mine did. I carried it daily in an IWB holster. I wiped it down every three days with Breakfree CLP. I’m one of those people who sweat battery acid.
