To many of those who tuned in, Donald Trumpâs three-minute remarks after finishing second in the Iowa caucuses appeared remarkably humble. He even congratulated Ted Cruz, whom Trump had called almost every name in the book in the days before.
Clearly, Trumpâs strategy of attacking his rivalâs character didnât work. But Cruzâs strategy of attacking Trump on his views apparently did.

Narrowly.
He's up 22 points in NH. Cruz is second with 11%. He, Kasich, Rubio and Christie are just a couple of points apart. If Cruz doesn't get a good bump from his win he could come in third after Trump and Rubio. It's so close he could come in fourth or fifth if the inevitable negative attacks from the GOPe work. They're going to want to clear the field fast to make it Rubio vs. Trump.
Delegate allocation, per CNN:
8 Cruz
7 Trump
7 Rubio
3 Carson
1 Paul
1 Bush
3 TBD

Grassley actually played it a little cool.
The biggest loser is Governor Branstad. He unofficially backed Walker, then Christie. He officially opposed Cruz. Not only did Cruz win, but even Branstad’s establishment followed the Washington, DC, RINOs and went Rubio instead of Christie.
The agricultural lobby ain't what it used to be. Inevitable result of mechanization of farming.
If the GOP-E insist on buying the nom for a Dem Lite, then, "what difference, at this point, does it make?"!!!!
If America gets flushed by the rich guys, then doesn't it make sense to make their victory over Main Street as painful and expensive and potentially physically dangerous for them as possible? ("Hey, Karl -- do you know how to spell 'reeducation camp'?")
Remember, the GOP-E did a monumentally cynical political deal in 2008 to allow the Dems to pass a Socialist healthcare bill so the Fortune 500 could dump their employees' healthcare.
The GOP-E threw a big chunk of our freedom and political future out the window right then, for 30 pieces of silver and -- icing on the cake -- all the rubes out here would blame the Democrats.
Pretty hard to avoid the inference that the GOP-E laid down in the presidential elections of 2008 and 2012.
Deal with that.
Bob Schieffer and the CBS morning-show crew wrote off the Bern after NH. NH is where he gets off the Hillary to White House train. Just saying, they were passing the word to the young people who dislike Beastie -- grow up, kids, the corrupt Clintons are getting the ticket back to DC. Proven ability to "perform" and all that. Consolation prize: Chel is already learning how to "lean in" .... and launder Mom's bribe money.
The ag lobby can buy politicians, but have lost their grip on actual voters.
Even I am surprised at how immune Iowans have become to political advertising.
People talk about the crowds at his events. Romney had the same crowds and ask him how that worked out
“People talk about the crowds at his events. Romney had the same crowds and ask him how that worked out”
He won the nomination.
I understand your point but to be honest, I am not sure I could vote for Trump
Yes Trump has a problem. He is already 0ne delegate down and nothing but a 20 point lead in New Hampshire to look forward to, maybe he should go home now and let “Baggage Carrying Ted” and Senior Amnesty fight it out for who loses to Hillary Clinton.
Yep and lost to barry
Eventually we will come around and see the coup has already happened.
Rubio will get the nomination because the GOPe is not going to allow anyone other than one of their choices to win. Just watch it play out.
I think most Southerners underestimate -- have no idea -- how much wealthy and Eastern Republicans despise and loathe them. Their loathing has more levels than La Scala. And it goes back to the 17th century.
The GOP-E threw two elections just to get rid of employer-paid healthcare. So you've no idea what they'll do to make sure someone like Ted Cruz or Mike Huckabee or Richard Shelby never sees the inside of the White House.
It appears that way. Hopefully, Trump and Cruz hit it hard against Rubio. We can’t take another GOPe politician or loss to the Dems.
So you guys are now for amnesty and the continuation of open borders?
I think Trump gets the same attendees who would watch his TV show. That is not a significant voting block. And now that the also-rans are starting to drop out it will be fascinating where they go.
As I have said in hundreds of posts: I don’t have a dog in this fight. None of them appeal to me. For the first time in my life, I think our government is so screwed that no one person is going to make a difference.

Well, I think I do. The divide is old and associated with lots of scars. The independence of the West, most of it based on oil and agriculture, drives them insane crazy.
A friend of mine worked for Republic Bank (1st chartered business in TX, named: “The Republic of Texas” in the charter), the one that went down in a long ago oil slump. He told me that bank had been self financing with oil money and never went to East Coast Banks for help. Consequently, they got caught in the slump and the vultures descended. A cousin of mine was a stockholder, they were told they were insolvent and the major stockholders pumped a ton of money into it, not many months later they were in the same situation. They eventually failed and East Coast elements took it over. It did not work out well for them either. They did not have the necessary humanity to deal with Texas customers.
And as far back as the entry of Texas into the U.S. it was similar. Those same interests did not like anything that threatened their power.
Headshake. Here we are again, similar circumstance.
Huck and Santorum won Iowa, not really important IMHO.
SC is important, Florida is important etc.
The unreported story of the last few years is how immune everyone has become to all advertising.
Most media is at least partially ad supported so the lack of coverage here is no surprise.
