A student in Killeen, Texas, was suspended on Tuesday after he picked up a classmate who was having an asthma attack and carried her to the nurse's office against his teacher's instructions.
Anthony Ruelas, 15, a student at Gateway Middle School, an alternative school in the Killeen Independent School District (ISD), said his classmate was "wheezing and gagging for three minutes" when his teacher said everyone should stay calm and wait for an email reply from the nurse in response to the situation, Texas TV station KCEN reported.
Ruelas said he knew that his friend "needed help," which is why he decided to pick her up and carry her to the office.
The teacher's report on the incident read: âDuring 5th period another student complained that she couldn't breathe and was having an asthma attack. As I waited for a response from the nurse, the student fell out of her chair to the floor. Anthony proceeded to go over and pick her up, saying âfâk that, we ainât got time to wait for no email from the nurse.â He walks out of class and carries the other student to the nurse.â

Fire the teacher and give the kid a scholarship to the vocational school of his choice.
Young man was suspended for being a hero. He should get a medal not a reprimand.
If that was my son, I would blast the school and praise him for not being a sheep and watch a classmate die “doing the right thing”
As soon as the school gets massive emails they’ll promptly come out with “It was just a simple misunderstanding” ...
My God in Heaven, tell me this isn’t real.
“fu-k that, we ain’t got time to wait for no email from the nurse”: Brings joy to my heart and a tear to my eye.
This experience will serve him well when smart people interview him in the future.
Heroes do it because it’s the right thing to do and hang the consequences.
Well done, son.
The school district said it was investigating the matter and released a statement in response to the incident.
“The District is unable to provide details related to the matter as it pertains to information involving student discipline and/or health records....
The Killeen ISD maintains the safety of our students, staff and campuses as a priority and applauds the efforts of students who act in good faith to assist others in times of need.”
Yeah. And then you suspend them. How about suspending the teacher for using email? An asthma attack- email!!???
Our system absolutely hates heroes and it trains children to be passive victims.
I have allergy-related asthma.
Like to give the teacher a good two- or three-minute choke.
Yes. Tears of joy. Macho is good.
Good for him, give him a medal!
Read the weasel-worded statement from the school district. Do you have to get a Phd in Weasel to get a school administrator job?
...way to build respect for authority.
The girl is barely breathing in the floor, and the authority response is to wait for a friggin’ email? What if the nurse wasn’t staring constantly at her conputer. Kid’s a hero for acting outside the box.
Ok, let’s see.
Emergency.
Assessment.
Decision.
Action.
Punishment for second guessing a stupid teacher?
I wonder if lifeguards at the beach wait for email responses these days?
Kid is hero. Idiot teacher needs to be fired.
In a neighboring school district they tried to suspend my son for protecting a six year old. A highschooler tried to stab the child while they were on the bus and my son wrestled the implement from him and wrestled him to the floor. He kept him contained until the police could arrive.
I was told that ALL parties who participate in a ‘fight’ are automatically suspended under Zero Tolerance policy.
I lost my freaking mind and told them I wanted a copy of the video tape. They told me that the camera was broken, but backed down on the suspension.
Texas is terrible about things like this.
A track record as a troublemaker to earn admission to an alternative school. Half step between regular school and juvenile detention.
They have no experience of the real world.
