Trump Silent On Abortion On 43rd Roe Anniversary, Pro- Lifer Challenges Him to Speak Out
Life News ^ | 1/22/2016 | Steve Ertelt

Posted on 01/22/2016 4:11:24 PM PST by conservativejoy

Businessman Donald Trump says he is pro-life and wants to de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. He's vocal on just about every topic and is ready to offer a quip at a moment's notice on anything that concerns him, the presidential campaign of politics.

But Trump is remarkably silent today on the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. His campaign has issued no statement from him on the 58 million unborn babies killed in abortion, he's not addressed pro-life topics today in any interviews and the prolific tweeter hasn't said a word on Twitter or even RTd a statement or picture from anyone else opposing abortion.

His silence has resulted in a top pro-life U.S. Senator challenging him to speak out for unborn children on today - the day that the majority of Americans who are pro-life solemnly recall the dreadful Supreme Court decision that ushered in an era of virtually unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason.

SIGN THE NEW PLEDGE: I Pledge to Vote for a Pro-Life Candidate for President

Senator Joni Ernst, a pro-life Republican who happens to hail from the site of the first presidential caucus, Iowa, told the Weekly Stndard that Trump needs to speak out. She also wants Trump to talk about where he stands on the monumentally important issue of Supreme Court judges - key to whether or not America will suffer from abortion on demand another 43 years.

Ahead of her speech at the March for Life on Friday, Iowa GOP senator Joni Ernst said that Donald Trump should tell voters where he stands on Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that declared a right to abortion-on-demand.

"It is extremely important—extremely important” to have a president who would "appoint judges that understand that Roe v. Wade really wasn't a decision that was based on the Constitution," Ernst told THE WEEKLY STANDARD during an interview in her Senate office Friday morning.

Asked if Trump should tell voters his position on the issue, Ernst replied that Republican candidates "need to spell that out. They should know where they stand. They're running for the office of president. They should know where they stand on this issue because it is so important."

Unfortunately, Trump's campaign is not responding to pro-life news sources like The Weekly Standard about more details on his pro-life positions on abortion and Supreme Court judges.

"Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks has not replied to emails from TWS asking for clarification on these points," TWS reporter John McCormack wrote.

If Trump wants pro-life voters to take his views seriously, he needs to speak our more frequently and more thoroughly on abortion - especially on a day when America is mourning 58 million aborted babies.

Here is Cruz’s 2013 statement.

Sen. Cruz Statement on 40th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Statement
By: Ted Cruz
Date: Jan. 22, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) today issued the following statement:

Today marks the dark anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that overturned a Texas law that prohibited abortion on demand. Since that 1973 ruling, more than 55 million lives have been lost to abortion.

Defending life, at its core, includes protecting both the unborn child and his or her mother from an irreversible injustice.

We cannot know how many inventors, musicians, scientists, athletes, physicians, and entrepreneurs were never allowed to breathe their first breath of life. We cannot know the medical cures, artistic masterpieces, thriving businesses, and life-transforming charities that never came into existence.

Today we mourn those 55 million souls.

I have been honored to defend the dignity of human life, helping successfully defend the federal Partial Birth Abortion Act, state parental notification laws, and Texas’s law prohibiting state funds for groups that provide abortions.

No right is more precious and fundamental than the right to life, and any just society should protect that right at every stage, from conception to natural death.

Here is Cruz’s 2014 statement.

Cruz: Roe Anniversary Reminds Us of the Tragic Loss of Over 56 Million Unborn Lives

Press Release
By: Ted Cruz
Date: Jan. 22, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, released the following statement marking the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade:

“Today, thousands of people march to the Supreme Court with heavy hearts. It is a solemn ritual, one that reminds us of the tragic loss of over 56 million unborn lives.

“Fifty-six million boys and girls who never drew a breath of air. Poets and inventors, doctors and athletes, explorers and musicians, the world is far the poorer for their loss.

“Every human life is a precious gift from God, and our law should protect innocent human life. Yet 41 years ago, the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision overturned the Texas law that prohibited abortion on demand.

“As we mourn the loss of millions of souls, we also commemorate the good work that citizens continue to do to fervently defend life. Beyond the thousands of marchers in Washington today, countless individuals are devoted to affirming life, to promoting adoption and to helping provide comfort and aid to new mothers in distress. Their efforts have continued to make significant steps towards valuing the dignity of each human life.

“This past year, we saw the horror of late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who was convicted of deliberately killing babies already born. The tragedy of that case can never be undone, but the fact that he was found guilty by a jury of his peers in Philadelphia is a small step towards basic human decency.

“In time, we can all hope that we can come together and create a culture of life, where every human life is protected, cherished, and respected.”

Here is Cruz’s 2015 statement

Sen. Cruz: Every Life is a Gift

Statement
By: Ted Cruz
Date: Jan. 22, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, released the following statement in support of the 2015 March for Life:

“Today thousands of students, families, and church communities have traveled to Washington to march for life and lift up our nation in prayer.

“Forty-two years ago, Roe v. Wade overturned a Texas law and in one sweeping decision legalized abortion on demand across our nation. We are filled with grief for the nearly 57 million souls who will never have a chance to become the next teachers, artists, entrepreneurs, and heroes.

“This anniversary marks a shadow in our nation’s history, but one that is not without hope. Since that decision, communities have come together to embrace life and help women in need, and states have enacted laws to protect the health of mothers and the unborn. I remain a strong supporter of the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, a measure that has overwhelming support of Texans and Americans and that is an important step in recognizing the sanctity of life, and it is my hope that we swiftly pass this legislation and send it to the President’s desk.

“Thanks to the courageous efforts of sojourners across the country, the light of hope is illuminating the corners of our world and restoring a culture of life in America.

“Each life is a gift from God. Without life, there is no liberty. So today, and every day, we stand united for life, and we resolve to always cherish and defend it.”

I can do better than that. Here are some things that Ted Cruz already has done to protect life

1. Fought to take away taxpayer dollars from Planned Parenthood.

2. Led the charge on behalf of 13 states to successfully defend a federal law that bans partial birth abortion before the U.S. Supreme Court.

3. Advocated for an investigation into abortion practices in the U.S. to prevent the atrocities witnessed in Kermit Gosnell’s facility from ever happening again.

4. Joined 18 states in successfully defending the New Hampshire parental-notification law before the U.S. Supreme Court.

5. Successfully defended Texas’s Rider 8, which prohibits state funds for groups that provide abortions.

As mentioned in a related thread, please consider the following.

The states have never amended the Constitution to include the word abortion. And not only did the Founding States make the 10th Amendment to clarify that the Constitutions silence about things like abortion means that such issues are automatically and uniquely state power issues, but it also means that the so-called PC right to have an abortion is not a constitutionally enumerated right as evidenced by the rights expressly protected by the Bill of Rights and other amendments.

So the states have the 10th Amendment-protected power to make laws which limit or prohibit the constitutionally unenumerated ”right” to have an abortion imo, regardless what activist justices want low-information citizens to think about the issue.

The problem is that pro-abortion activist justices not only stole legislative powers to establish the so-called right to have an abortion from the bench, but they breached the Founding States division of state and federal government powers and stole unique state legislative powers to do so.

Remember in November !

When patriots elect Trump, or whatever conservative they elect, they will also need to elect a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will be willing to not only work within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers to support the president, but also be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring, pro-abortion activist justices.

Good for Cruz, I applaud him for his efforts an I support him for it What has he accomplished? Abortion isn't going to change in this Country until enough people wake up to the horror and truth of it and demand the change.

Sad to say, that time has not arrived yet and even sadder it is not an issue in this election. Cruz is doing what he has to do to rally supporters, but it's not enough to win this time around.

Why is Trump not speaking up for the unborn

Let's be honest here dschapin. If Trump said he was pro-life everyday for the next year, you still wouldn't believe him.
