Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday that Trump's popularity is evidence that "nationalism and populism have overtaken conservatism" in the Republican Party
"The Trump triumph - the Trump coalition - is exposing the fact that it isn't conservative orthodoxy, or conservatism or any of the hard work of the conservative elite," explained Limbaugh, "that is causing people to be conservative."
LIMBAUGH: It's something really simple... They're fed up with the modern day Democratic Party... The Republican Party establishment does not understand this. They do not know who their conservative voters are. They've over-estimated their conservatism... They're not liberals. They're not Democrat. Many of them do not want to be thought of as conservatives for a host of reasons. So somebody who comes along and is able to convey that he or she understands why they're angry and furthermore, is going to do everything to fix it, is going to own them. What's happening here is that 'nationalism' - dirty word, ooh people hate it - and 'populism' - even dirtier word. Nationalism and populism have overtaken conservatism in terms of appeal.
when asked about GAY MARRIAGE , his response was “ it’s the law of the land”
Trump and Bernie Sanders both agree on a UNIVERSAL one payer Health Care program!!
Yeah, lol, I am sure he will have a “all the time” position on that, if he does not have one already.
The future will be won by those who DO NOT CARE what Leftists choose to call them.
Trying to win the approval of the Left is a losing game. Trying to not have too many people dislike you, is a losing game.
Give me a politician who is not afraid of having thousands of people marching the streets screaming that they want him dead. That's why I initially was a Scott Walker fan, before he waffled on immigration and imploded. During the Right to Work fight in Wisconsin, the union people were raising all sorts of hell, and he and the Repubs there stayed firm.
Any Republican president who tries to roll back Obama's legacy WILL have to face rioting in the streets of DC. The job will not be for the weak.
“Rush believes in only one thing...his bank account.”
Essentially my conclusion twenty years ago, which, in essence, makes him indistinguishable from Trump. Or the GOP, for that matter.
Trump and Bernie Sanders both agree on a UNIVERSAL one payer Health Care program!!
My conservatism has lined up with the values that have been those Jim Robinson has said this site is founded on
PRO LIFE, PRO GUN, PRO FAMILY...
those biases? Maybe I am now on the wrong forum???
No that’s incorrect.
You imagine that you know Trump’s positions, but you don’t.
Trump’s position papers are the same as his positions taken in his books. They did not develop on June 15, 2015. They are in more detail now but not new.
Did you vote for Reagan?
Did you vote for McCain?
Did you vote for Romney?
Do you think if you repeat that often enough someone will believe it? It won’t work, those who support Trump were intelligent enough to listen to him, check out his positions and read his books. We vetted our candidate, and know where he stands.
Free Republic post of the year!
The Cruzbots have this delusion that the key to victory is that the American people simply don't know enough about the Constitution.
Their entire strategy is to preach to anybody that will listen about the Constitution and how it will save us all.
People don't want to hear that silly sh*t. Most don't even understand what any of it even means.
People want to hear "Build a wall" "Bring back American jobs" "Let's win" and "Make America Great Again"
It's really not that hard to understand.
I post FACTS, none of which you apparently know.
I doubt that you even know much about Ted, whom you rabidly support. I bet that you either call the facts about him lies, or make excuses for him. LOL
Lukacs idea was that 19th century politics pitted liberalism versus conservatism against each other, while 20th century politics saw a conflict between socialism and nationalism, with populism thrown in on the nationalist side to make it more dangerous.
That may have fit very well with how things were in Hungary when Lukacs was growing up, but it wasn't the best or most insightful reading of US politics in the 20th century. Lukacs, who made a name for himself in conservative circles in the 1970s, was very opposed to Reagan in the 1980s and the vision of Reagan as an unconservative nationalist became something of an obsession with him.
The big picture theory also didn't fit in very well with 19th century politics: there was plenty of nationalism, populism, and even some socialism in the air even when Gladstone and Disraeli were filling their cabinets with aristocrats. The democratic horse had already left the barn even back then.
Revolutions devour their children -- and their parents. Those who don't like Rush can savor the irony of him complaining about populism in politics.
He did not believe in small government, he did not fear God.
He was an atheist who believed that the managerial, bureaucratic state was here to stay and that it should be used as a vehicle to promote the ethnoracial interests of the core American demographic - by which he meant white Europeans.
He believed that the Constitution, the Declaration, the Bible, the churches, the flag, etc. should be used as powerful symbols of identity in the same way that the Romans used the 12 tables of the law, the trappings of the old Republic, the legionary Eagles, the fasces, the gates of Janus, the Vestal Virgins and all the other symbols of Rome.
What he proposed was a non-genocidal, more Americanized Führerstaat.
Oh boy! Let's bet the future on recycled bumper sticker slogans. Same empty words we've heard for more than two decades from better than the likes of Donald Trump. Words aren't going to win.
What has he done to advocate anything he promises on the campaign? Zip, zero, Nada. Instead, he makes promises that are polar opposites to different audiences, making too many pandering statements. No core. It makes a difference.
What the people want is the anti-American Left and the Ruling Class GOPe stopped and they dont care who does it as long as it gets done. No excuses.
And right now the people think Trump is the ONLY man with the stones and abilty to win against the enormous power of the Washington/Media complex and do it. Political 'purity' means nothing.
Very well said.
I think for a lot of the kooks on this forum, they will only be satisfied if the Republican candidate is:
A 47 year old Southern Baptist preacher who's a virgin.
He and his wife have 19 adopted kids, as they have never had sex.
This man has never drank a drop of alcohol in his life, has never watched TV, and has only heard
of movies from some of the more sinful members of his congregation.
During his presidential campaign, he'll rant non-stop about the Constitution and occassionally take a
break by reciting scripture for 20 minutes.
That's their perfect candidate.
I'm being serious.
Rush doesn’t get his money from the rich. He gets it from ratings.
Anti Trump wackos think Trump is a one-off phenomena, this is their biggest mistake. If Trump can’t do it we’ll ditch him because I predict Nationalist-Patriots anti-glowBULLists are going to start to come out of the wood work. It is safe to do so now that Trump destroyed PC.
Two Timothy 4
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
