One of our ABC7 Chicago colleagues was found murdered Friday while traveling in Belize, according to police in the Central American nation and the U.S. State Department.

Belize City or Belmopan? Bad newsville. Only a fool would stay there.
I know a couple who went to Belize to check it out for possible retirement. They will never go back.
She thought the world was her playground. Some local saw her as prey. Use common sense!
Oops! Read the article. Still, by the border of Guatemala and off the track. Not a tourist destination.
The border between Belize and Guatomala is disputed, and that would explain the lack of security there.

They were going to build a home, retire....had it all worked out.
A few months later they returned and wouldn’t even talk about it.
Their corruption, among other things, prevents them from having a stable, better, and more prosperous country.
That’s really too bad. We went to Ambergris Caye and Belize back in the early 1980’s. Had a delightful time and always wanted to go back. Guess we waited too long.
Women have this terrifying penchant for traveling outside the US alone. Understandable and fun, yes, but utterly naive.
The sad thing is, they do not understand that American men are the best in the world an expect the foreign men of primitive cultures to act the same.
For goodness’ sake, anyplace on Earth has got to be safer than Chicago....

Well, that strikes out another destination on the bucket list. The world is getting smaller and smaller. I too, should have traveled more when I was younger.
Talked to a neighbor who did the same, checked out Belize. Nothing like the brochures, PR stuff. Other than speaking English it has nothing going for it. Just like most SA countries.
