The 18-year-old victim and her father were walking through Osborn Playground in Brownsville at around 9 p.m. Friday when the two were approached by five men, investigators said.
One man brandished a gun and told the teenager's father to leave the area, police said. The girl's father then ran for help, but by the time he returned with two police officers, the five men had raped the teenager and fled, authorities said.

Dad had no cell phone?
At some point there are no good choices.
“The ‘dad’ should just kill himself since he literally murdered his own daughter with his cowardice.”
The daughter did not die. She was treated and released. Even if she had died, it would not be the dad’s fault. Perhaps if he had stayed and tried to fight them, his daughter would not have been raped. He might have been shot and lived or died. No one but God can say for sure what the outcome would have been.
Regardless, the father is also a victim. There is no place for blaming the victims.
However, if the father had pulled out a gun and rid the world of these men, the story would have a happy ending instead of being a tragedy.
And this did happen in NY. Cops still do walk beats so finding one even at that hour is not hard to do.. Also, if you are not trained to take down an armed attacker with a gun drawn on you you are in a helpless situation.
Soooo they were black or Muslim then.
I have a permit, and I understand about having it in your car or home, but how do I get the gun form GA to IL. YOu can’t.
I agree with you.
A better story would be that the father shot them rather than running for help and leaving his child unattended in the hands of rapists.
Agree.
Maybe he wins and she is unharmed.
Or he is killed and while defending her she runs away.
One thing is for certain, if he runs away it is 100% certain she is harmed.
When defending your wife, daughter, etc, odds go out the door when you fight like hell, willing to die fighting to protect family. That can be enough to deter the feral obama-boys.
Out of staters are eligible for IL CC licenses these days.

Good Lord.
Can you live with yourself is you ran away and left your wife/daughter to be violated (and possibly killed)?
Would your wife/daughter ever trust you to protect them, ever?
Fighting back changes the odds and if you die, at least she has a chance to get away and like a previous poster pointed out, the feral cowards do not hang around after a shooting.
Honor is important. Courage is important. Being a man is important.
Lamppost! Let them kick in the wind! This is Obama Land!
No one knows what they would do in a situation like this. This guy may have thought in his mind that the best chance for survival is to do what he did. That any thing else was sure death for both of them.We also do not know the age of the father or his health condition, he could have been anywhere from his mid 30’s to mid 60’s. We just don’t know all the circumstances.
That is true, but I have been in a situation like that and would never leave my wife or daughter to the tender mercies of obama’s-sons.
Age 20 or 100. . .fight.
“A coward dies a thousand deaths, the brave just one.”
Thats all good for movies and such but not reality in most cases. Fight a battle that guarantees your death and your daughters or live to fight another day. There are too many unknowns in this article. Many people have survived rape and physical assault, not too many with a gunshot to the head.
You’re right that Illinois does not have reciprocity. I think it should, but it doesn’t. Illinois voters need to retire Assembly Speaker Mike Madigan, a notorious Chicago machine politician, before any reciprocity would even be considered.
You fight with whatever you have. You punch, kick, gouge, bite...whatever you have to do. A real man — especially a real FATHER — does not leave his daughter (or his wife, etc.) at the mercy of rapists or bad guys.
But, I am going on 65, so I belong to a different generation. Maybe men of my generation tend to see things differently than much of America’s current crop.
I have no idea who Edgar-the-Bug is, so I can’t even begin to address your comment.
