WEEKLY GARDEN THREAD JANUARY 8, 2016
freerepublic | January 8, 2016 | greeneyes

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won't be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Persistence is good. I have had zero experience with this, but feel free to ask again as someone else may eventually see it and reply.

I don’t grow pumpkins, so I don’t really have any thoughts, but if you check your state’s extension service, they often have information regarding what’s good for your area.

I order seed mostly from Baker’s Creek (Mo. Company)or bountiful gardens as I am a non-GMO/heirloom seed person.

That’s great! The picture was a flash from the past for me. Those are exactly like the tubs that used to be at my great grandma’s house.

Every Monday granny and I would go over to her house and do the laundry with the wringer washer and tubs for rinsing. They were set up on a slab of concrete/enclosed porch at the side of the kitchen.

I am impatiently waiting for the correct time this year, but truly haven’t had much time to do any garden planning anyway.

I need to get going on the seeds. I’ve just been so busy lately. The tomatoes and chives are doing well, but no sign of any ancho poblanos yet. Some of the seeds will be sown directly into the planters, though.
