If one of them tastes a bit “off”, it’s probably an Odd Fellow, not an Elk.
I’m thinking that there was a elk’s club meeting going on there and they thought the train was bringing the entertainment.
‘Pretty much when a 60-mile-per-hour train hits an elk, they explode on impact and thereâs not much left,’ he said. ‘Itâs pretty devastating.’
There goes my idea for using trains as meat tenderizers!
Sad, especially since the meat was lost. Not much information. I wonder if this was one of the Alaska time collisions where the ungulates, moose up there, walk on the tracks since the snow is cleared, and can't scale the high snowbanks when a train comes. Haven't a clue how much snow is there, global warming and all. Otherwise, I can't imagine hitting 23 elk or anything if an escape path was available.
Good one, Jack!
They must have thought the Canadian lady elks were coming on the Helena Express.
They said that, but the photo showed five, pretty much intact, elk bodies.
They'll get you coming
And going!
Just like in Yellowstone, they ignore people for the most part... and ‘peoples’ things
warm pipelines they like though
I sure hope they ducked.
They obviously need to put up better signs to warn the elk.
“I have a theory.”
It looks like moose have half a brain, but that isn’t enough.
Caution for the weak hearted.
DON’T MOCK the MOOSE
you might get cheesed
I’s search for a train network but that the government would use it against me or I’d spend too much time there...
Gotta keep this in context, one of the great things about MT is the number of abandoned RR that are available.
(even back in my hometown in MASS there are RR converted to trails...)
Free Elk Steak for everybody!
Drove from Missouri thru the state of Kansas several times and the highway is littered with dead mulies hit by semi’s and other vehicles........such is life.
As? I love me some venison any day of the week but deer is to elk meat as ground chuck is to tri tip...
