Sounds like an opportunity fer some Elk hamburger.
Elk.
It’s what’s for dinner.
How many elk and caribou did pipelines kill last decade?
You’d think they’d learn to fear a loud train bearing down on them and run away. Maybe the survivors did.
Ping........
Bummer
The locals will eat like kings this week.
maybe they are used to the noise...just never hung on the rails

I was not aware that elk commonly travel single-file.
All that died
(pre common core answer)
My experience is that animals tend to freeze in place, and apparently have no understanding of how quickly the “target” is bearing-down on them.
they were circling the black stone..lump o coal..march em into the WV coal mines
Sounds like the meat might be a bit tainted after being hit at 60mph
bullet train? awww no
I was on an Amtrak train that was going about 80 or so when it struck a cow. It looked like we hit a thousand pound mosquito.

Depends upon the species. Some dart back and forth and end up darting back under the wheels after you thought you’d managed to avoid hitting them. Some freeze, like a possum. Some even roll up into a ball and jump up in the air, unintentionally embedding themselves into windshields and semi grilles, like armadillos. Never having encountered an elk while driving, I can’t say what their typical behavior might be.
