I don't know why this came as a shock to me, but I was looking at Google maps and noticed that the Rio Grande, the river that is the border between Texas and Mexico, was labelled as Rio Bravo. North of El Paso, where the river cuts through New Mexico, it's labelled as the Rio Grande. Further investigation revealed that the Mexican name for the river is Rio Bravo. So, surprise surprise, Google is pandering to the left and it's illegal minions.
In South Texas, do non-Latinos call themselves “Anglos”?
Anglos all over the Southwest use the word.
I concur. I really do not think this is “ a grand conspiracy”. Rio Bravo, Rio Grande. Both Spanish words. Both used on both sides of the river.
No problem. At least to me.
It's not uncommon. Consider that, in South Texas, the distinction is ethnicity, not skin color. Consequently, it's "Anglos and Latinos", not "white and..."
Uh, "forced"? Invited in, I would say.
Absolutely!....
If they changed the name, they would have to change the name of the movie.

Rio Grande City on the banks of the Rio Bravo. Makes perfect sense to me.
True, but it is telling for an ostensibly “American” company to show it that way.
I would normally say this is small potatoes for this type of thing for Google.
They usually are more er...in your face with things like the scrubbing of things from their searches they (or their allies) don’t want you to see, or the goods and services they refuse to allow to appear.
They do pay attention to the small details like naming of things on maps, though, and the ham-handed pandering they do through the composition of their main find page each day is just as irritating and in-your-face.
You just have to open your eyes and look, which his what most here try to do.
My investigation of the map of Italy shows the city of Rome is called Roma by Google maps. Even worse, the Tiber River is referred to as Tevere. My investigation will continue and I’ll get back to you later.
Rio Grande and Rio Bravo are both Spanish names.
The obvious compromise is to come up with an English name for the river.
I propose Wetback River.
Ty a lot of good memories there.
Right.
Rio Bravo (1959) John Wayne, Angie Dickinson, Rickie Nelson and Soupy Sales. It’s a movie about the river. He keep on Rollin, dat old man River.
Yes, a good, fun movie.
Jennifer O'Neill, Rio Lobo
You include Soupy Sales, but leave out Dean Martin??
