Epidemiologists — people who track diseases — use an expression: Seek and ye shall find. It's a reminder that sometimes when you see a phenomenon, it may not be entirely new. It may be that you've only just noticed it.

Well, the world seems to be having a major seek-and-ye-shall-find moment right now with a worrisome new superbug.

In late December, reports emerged that the mcr-1 gene, which confers resistance to an important antibiotic of last-resort, has been found in bacteria previously collected in the Netherlands, Laos, Algeria, Thailand, and France. There is reason to believe it may also be circulating in Bolivia, Peru, Tunisia, Portugal, Malaysia, and possibly Vietnam and Cambodia.

The journal that has published many of these findings, the Lancet Infectious Diseases, indicated on its Twitter feed that it has more mcr-1 reports in its hopper: "There will be another wave of reports soon."...

Someone told me to also get some Oil of Oregano. Do you agree?

Essential oil of oregano is some pretty powerful stuff. There are a lot of natural antimicrobials around, tea tree oil is another, do some research. Most are topical, meaning meant to be used externally, not internally. You may be sensitive to one or the other, so discontinue use if you get skin irritation, redness, rash from them.

Good for you. I will start K2 ASAP. I’ve known it’s supposed to be taken with D3 but have procrastinated.

I’ve heard good things about Tumeric and will also do that.

Happy New Year!

Tea tree oil is made from melaleuca, an Australian plant. It has a fairly strong scent, somewhat like camphor. It works well on minor skin infections, scrapes, insect bites, etc. in my experience. Widely available, in drug stores, even Walmart. Others aren’t as easily located and purchased.

Thanks, I’ll get some to have on hand.

I keep hydrogen peroxide and Epsom Salt on hand, too.
