Gunmaker to craft pistols from chunk of prehistoric meteorite found in Africa nearly 200 years ago and sell them for $1million
A high-end gunmaker is crafting a pair of pistols from a chunk of prehistoric meteorite and plans to sell them for $1million.
Cabot Guns, based in Pittsburgh, has already made gun grips from a 77-pound meteorite and says the 'extra-terrestrial pistols' will go to auction in 2016.
The semi-automatic .45 caliber pistols will be made from the meteorite, which is believed to have crashed to Earth 4.5billion years ago.

No, thank you. Guns are tools, and I want mine made well, not from cute materials. Besides, as a charter member of the FR Canoe Club, I’m not willing to spend much on any firearm.
Hey on a 1960s tv budget you make do with what you can.
I see the trigger now. The plastic one...lol
Reminiscent of the mostly-fanciful movie, “The Iron Mistress”, with Alan Ladd. In it, Bowie saw a meteorite land and found it. He then had a knife made out of it, so it became the famous Bowie Knife.
Early 1950s. As a kid, I loved the movie. Saw it again as a grown-up and it was schmaltzy.
Maybe, just maybe, for a million dollars they will throat the barrel and it will feed anything.
That’s exactly they way we looked at it. Mrs. L and I got a pair. She opted for the full size and I prefer the Commander length. We do get some looms when we go to the range. LOL.
Happy New Year to you.

Interesting. I’ll just have to keep on with the old
Smith & Wesson revolver I inherited from my great-great
grandfather. It gits the job done!
Will the bullets for the meteorite gun be made from
meteorites?
Haha, that would get some looks. They are the real deal though, I’m glad you opted for quality, I think times are coming when we’ll need it.
Happy new year’s to you folks as well.
“Cabot makes some very, very high end 1911s.”
No lie! I’d be hesitant to pistol-whip somebody with one for fear of scratching the finish.
So does Morris. Wilson Combat has some custom/private 1911s which are awesome also.
I read the title and thought...THE IRON MISTRESS with Alan Ladd.
Why pistols?
There has always been an esoteric ‘oooooo-pretty’ to knives made from meteorites, and a continuing mythos that goes with them, along with those that would, indeed, pay the price stated, no questions asked.
The story goes that the original knife made for Jim Bowie was fashioned from a meteorite, and ever since there has been a mythos attached to that knife, and all that followed it.
But what color kryptonite?
Yellow?
Red?
Blue?
Green?
White?
Gold. Permanently robs Supes of all of his powers (except when it doesn’t.)
White Kryptonite saved his life once. He should keep a stock of it.
Never mind that - I want a gun that shoots meteors.
Must be tough to machine and who knows what the strength would be of the alloy.
That would be awesome.
Happy New Year to you, old friend.

Will they be evil like Jim Bowie’s knife?
Strange how that works isn't it? I remember that movie well, but even Shane was schmaltzy in my later years. Not many of the old Classics stand up well to modern movies, if only they could stop the fBombs and raunchy sex scenes.
