Lost Loves... a melancholy thread on Christmas Eve....
12/24/2015 | By Laz A. Mataz

On this Christmas eve, my mind drifts back to old, lost loves.... like the Sig Sauer P210 I got from Shotgun news. This legendary pistol, made in 1959, I managed to get at a STEAL from some Swiss Army decommission imports for a mere 700 dollars, somewhere in the very late 1990's.

I received the firearm. and while I loved the action and the crisp dropoff of the trigger, I hated some of the 1950's ergonomics. The magazine release was on the butt of the grip, for example. The safety was oddly-placed.

I took a fatal decision. I decided this clockwork-like masterpiece, this Swiss-engineered marvel, had no place in my collection. I regret this decision, and will to my dying day.

I sold it to someone VERY eager to pick it up for 1500 dollars. I should have wondered why he was so eager. Now I know.

This legendary shooter -- the most accurate out-of-the-box pistol in the WORLD -- is renowned and admired in pistol circles. The cheapest I could replace such a masterpiece for, is 3000 for a very used one, and 5000-6000 for one with my low serial number, and one in the condition mine was in (like new).

Women come and go, but PISTOLS... the loss of a good pistol can bring a man to tears.

Tonight, I cry.

I have all my pistols.

You, sir, have my admiration!

I can't talk about the women.

Of course not. The restraining orders will not permit it. :)

My dream gun is an AK-74M, I have two of them from Arsenal.
One has a 4.5mm pin, the other a standard 5.5mm folder.

My other dream gun is a Saiga 7.62 converted to look like an AK-103 with a 5.5mm folder.

Right now all I have is 5.45x39 rifles.

You’ve done well with the two you have! Merry Christmas!

Ping. I think that this is going to be one of FR's greatest holiday threads.

Saddest, anyways.....

I did start dating this new Saiga 12, but she’s finicky. She’ll need some work.

There are a lot I wish I didn’t have to sell but while in grad school I ran out of money and had to sell nearly all of a large collection.

Not sure if this is the one but I really wish I had kept a 98-09 Argentine Mauser. Mine was ordered from Walter Craig in Selma, Alabama. Unfired, new in cosmoline with the original test target.

The workmanship was truly great. It was made by Deutsch Waffen Und Muntionsfabrik, Berlin. My particular serial number had actually been made in 1909.

I sold it for $400 which was actually one of the rare ones I sold for more than it’s market price. Still I really wish I had it back.

A P210, you have hidden depths unsuspected by us all my FRiend....

Oh, what a loss it was. Wives? Not an issue. Girlfriends? Dozens have come and gone. BUT THERE HAS ONLY BEEN ONE P210!

If you're a gun guy and have no regrets... you're not really a gun guy.

WHY WAS I SO FOOLISH?

I miss my Glock 21. She was the very first generation. I loved her like an ugly girlfriend, hated to look down her sights, but if I’d just point and shoot, she’d hit the mark almost every time. But it was her feeding problems that finally came between us. It wasn’t that I couldn’t look down her sights, it was that those first generation feeding issues came between us! Oh! How I hated to let her go! I’ve been told that her younger sisters are awsome and have no trouble when it comes to feeding. Would it be gross if I picked up one of her younger sisters?

I toast your lost firearm, and mourn with you.

Even Obama is saddened by that tale.

The younger Glock sisters are reliable and prettier.... though none of them compare to the P210.

I'd still go out and marry a nice Gen 3 or 4, while you are still young.

Growing up, my dad had a Luftwaffe pilot’s pistol. It was a Sig 32 auto, adorned with the swastikas and complete with an engraved holster. It was pristine and shot well. He promised it to me,but traded it off a couple years before I turned 18. I did get a really sweet Ruger 44 magnum carbine out of the deal, but I never really forgave him. Ghosts of Christmas past...

Buy the new, keep the old.
One is silver, the other gold.
That was drilled into me at an early age.
Pity about the boating accident...

That was the ultimate betrayal.

Our family had an old officer’s Luger, a war trophy with the name of the officer inscribed on the slide (toggle, actually).

When Uncle Pat died, I tried to lay hands on it. I never could locate it in the estate. It is all I wanted.

I weep for that one, too.

That, sir, is awesome sauce!

I did, however, get ahold of the old Nazi SS helmet, so there was SOMETHING.

The helmet had a nice schrapnel ding on it. I imagine that particular explosive dented the helmet and killed the owner.

The letters on the top line translate to GSPC in English. I wonder what that stands for?

I’ve never told my husband no. Ever. It’s true. Every time he’s asked if he can buy a new gun I’ve always said yes. Eat your hearts out, boys!
