RICHMOND, Va. (AP) â Virginia will no longer recognize concealed handgun permits from more than two dozen states that have less stringent laws.
Attorney General Mark Herring said Tuesday that the state will revoke its reciprocity agreement with 25 states after a review found that their permit requirements are weaker than Virginiaâs. The change takes effect Feb. 1.

Didn’t SCOTUS say they had to honor that stuff when they ruled on gay marriage?
This, coming from a state that allows for anyone to apply for a Virginia CCW permit after taking their 1-hour online training class ?? Without even demonstrating basic competency at a real live range ??
Any CCW class in the state of Texas, for example, would be much more thorough than this, and Virginia is not recognizing CCW permit holders from other states that have real live training classes with required range tests ??
Also, Virginia’s background checks for CCW applicants are no different than any other state’s process.
This is a transparently stupid attempt to simply take rights away from lawful gun owners.
With Roberts on the court not good.
Big VA news that will affect a lot of people and will probably hurt VA tourism.
Begs the question, will law enforcement once again march in lockstep to enforce it?
VCDL is on this like flies on Obama.
TC
Can’t do that.
If gay marriage in other states can’t not be recognized, neither can ccw permits. Besides 2a trumps state law. Its the law of the land.
This is what happens when you elect democrats.
Whenever I see that bridge, and that area...it makes me remember there were once men in this country who fought back, and gives me hope for the future.
I am damned disappointed that my state was not on there.
FUVA!
This is from today's e-mail update from the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL):
According to the Washington Post, here are the states whose CHPs Virginia will no longer recognize effective February 1:
Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
The following permits will continue to be recognized: West Virginia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah.
This does not mean we will lose our ability to carry in every state in the first list, but I am certain we will lose some of them. An alert will come out whenever we learn about such a case. Either way, until February 1st, nothing should change.
CCW > Gay marriage. That’s what I’ve thought on this too. Especially since there is no discussion of state’s rights in the 2nd.
VERY nice pic!
Damn right.
Perhaps all these states should refuse to accept Virginia drivers licenses.
Wtf is the difference? 2a rights are in the constitution, drivers licenses are not.
Thanks, JH. A little off topic, but...I guess on a thread about one of the critical original 13 straying from the tenets of the men who stood for something there...
I can only imagine there are a lot of Virginians who are nearly unable to fathom how far Virginia has fallen in a generation.
I know how they feel.
Yes.... we Freepers from Marxachusetts share our disappointment in the way things have turned out for the Commonwealth.
I’m surprised at the Va/NC conflict.
I thought they had almost identical laws.
If you go to Northern VA, you’ll see what happened. It’s like you’re in a foreign country there. Several families live in one housing unit and the schools are overwhelmed. Most everyone there feeds at the gubmint trough in one way or another.
