What in the world just happened?!
That's what everyone and anyone is thinking Sunday night after watching the dramaticâand by we really mean dramaticâfinal moments of Miss Universe 2015.
At first, host Steve Harvey made it perfectly clear that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez was the winner. There were hugs, cheers, flowers, a standing ovation and everything you expect from a happy moment.
Things quickly took a turn, however, when Steve stopped the party.
"Okay folks, I have to apologize. The first runner-up is Colombia," he explained as the camera panned to Miss USA and Miss Philippine. In other words, Miss Universe 2015 is Miss Philippine Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach!
Yes, it was awkward. Yes, the camera crews, audience and host didn't know what to do. And somehow the show went on.
"Listen folks, let me just take control of this. This is exactly what's on the card," Harvey shared while holding up the results. "I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake. It was on the card. Horrible mistake. It is my mistake."
He continued while trying to hold back tears, "Please don't hold it against the ladies. We feel so badly but it's been a great night."
Great night? More like unforgettable night!
Story developing...more to come!
Well in the immortal words of Ron Burgundy: “Agree to disagree!”
If the pageant is based on beauty, Philippines is clearly the winner of the three pictured.
I said it was definitely not USA and I doubted they would give it to Columbia twice in a row and that Miss Philippines would be the winner
We waited for the announcement and turned the channel
Who'da'thunk ?
Yep it's a sign from God - a metaphor for all the world to see about next year's election - who do you want running this country ...
This morning among my circle of Colombian contacts, they were not taking it so gracefully. “AN INSULT TO ALL LATINOS” was among some of the comments. Care for some popcorn? This is going to be interesting...
What a genius.
Boy did this get alot of news coverage this morning. D’oh.
I’m told he corrected the spelling and re-tweeted.
No....He corrected it and re-tweeted.
After watching several past Ms. Universes, I believe that the tradition is to say : “THE RUNNER-UP IS ...” and then announced the name.
Steve apparently mistook the name on the card for the winner.
He was not informed.

I just got through watching a taped episode here in Australia, i was laughing my behind off, i knew what was going to happen earlier and i had to watch it myself. That poor girl Columbia, there should be a rule to prevent this from happening again.
But i can say this along with others, Trump would have done it better, bet he gets more points in the polls.
And along comes election night.....
Hilary is in her pantsuit evening burlap or canvas gown, she gets told she had won, she spends the next half hour parading around like Musolini in drag and then is told Trump won instead....
It would be priceless to see it happen, all the last minute fake votes and still Trump wins.
Eggs Zack Lee
He crowed about about voting for Obama simply cause he’s black
He’s a buffoon
You need to see the card
It says first runner up and winner on same card
He’s just a smack talker which some mistake for smarts
Just wow, I didn't think you could correct a tweet, I figured they were like FR Posts ;)
Anyone who ever watched a Beauty Pageant would know that you announce the First Runner Up, as the way of announcing the Winner.
He had but one job. One. Read a card, announce what it says.
I can only imagine Kelly's development as an understudy to Dirk Nowitzki.
What can I say? I'm a Zag alum. lol
