I read an interesting story about the car.
The car was hand painted by a bunch of artists in San Fran - some well known, some not. After she died, it was turned over to a family member who just drove it around. After a number of years, they repainted the car in solid grey.
The car fell into disrepair. Somebody finally figured out it might be worth something so it was restored. And during the restoration, they got someone to repaint the crazy paint job from a bunch of photos.
A lot of the value is the ownership history but would have been worth much more if the original paint was still there.
