So, the Big Speech is over. Obama spoke from the Oval Office about the domestic Islamic terrorism that occurred in San Bernadino a few days ago.
Many gun owners, myself included, dreaded this speech as the possible introduction point for unconstitutional Executive Orders on firearms. The Executive Order (excuse me, 'Executive Action') floated most heavily was to bring private firearms sales under the Brady Act. The announcement did not materialize.
One of two gun control urgings that did appear, however, is something I deem the "No-Fly-No-Buy List". In this effort, the present "No-Fly List" would be used to also deny the purchase of firearms to those people who are on that list.
Let us discuss the "No-Fly List". While, at first glance, it appears to be a useful tool to prevent terrorists from flying, it has a few characteristics that make it very Soviet-like:
This is an Un-Citizen-List. Placement on this list makes you an Un-Person, at least in regards to your ability to travel freely. That is not acceptable in a society like ours.
Now, along comes OTrauma, who pitches the idea -- not to REFORM this legal tool -- but to EXPAND it to include firearms purchases.
There is no due process. The present list must be reformed, not, instead, have its function expanded!
It is important that we do not let the "No-Fly List" become the "No-Fly-No-Buy List."

I saw a US Army recruiting commercial which brought up that talking point.
My first reaction (after my hackles went up) was "You should be protecting THIS country, first and foremost. If the rest want a country, let them build it the way they want."

It’s so simple, yet I am sure the federal government would say oh no, we are going to continue to import as many muslim terrorists as we can, so obviously you people are no longer going to enjoy your God given rights to defend yourselves, and instead you will enjoy your own murders among you.
When we were all young and optimistic, could you imagine seeing the things going on today with the approval of half the Voting Population in your Lifetime?

The vast majority of people on the no-fly list aren’t even Americans. In Aug 2013 only 800 of over 40,000 were Americans.
So, not only would the president's recommended action be unconstitutional, it would have no appreciable impact.
The act would thus beboth illegal and ineffective -- just like the president.
Let's imagine for a second if this list was actually an accurate list terrorists. If this was true, then these people should be locked up and not be walking the streets, or deported if they are not American citizens. Making gun laws to try to keep guns out of the hands of these people is preposterous.
Good assessment - not many are aware of the total lack of Constitutional objectivity/protections of the No Fly “standards...

What also annoys me about these misconceptions is that both are often held by those American leftists who criticize America for all the ills of the past 200 years, who condemn us for being an empire and going into whatever country we want to take what we want.

If you take issue with my post to the point of calling ZOT, I advise you take it up with JimRob, who agrees with this post. He even added a new caveat to the N.F.L.: Only non-Americans can be added to the list. I rather like that caveat as well.

Well, the LeftiFascists (<--- another new phrase-coining, I seem to be on a roll!) only want to stretch this unconstitutional framework to firearms, but I take your meaning, and see how they could roll it out to ALL purchases. Potential BOMB manufacture, dontchya know!
After that, it's a very short travel to a chip or a symbol on your hand or forehead.
So yeah, this is that.
