Shopping for a weapon. A friend suggested a Sig 225. What do you think? I currently own two .22 cal rifles, a Winchester 25-35 and an M-1 carbine with three 10 round mags. I live in SoCal and want to buy before it is too late. Thank you all for your advice.
I suggest looking at a Beretta PX4,excellent weapon.Or anything by HK.I don’t think anyone was ever disappointed with their new SIG either.

>>Iâve always been a fan of Drastic Plastic. The Glock fires every time you want it to.
Same here. I’ve owned Sigs, Berettas, S&Ws, Colts, Rugers, and other less premium brands of firearm over the last 35 years. But the Glock 9mms are the ones I would bet my life on whether it is right out of the box unfired or 20 years old.
I recently added a G43 to the collection and was curious how a skinny single stack Glock would perform. I put 500 rounds downrange on the day I bought it and it performed perfectly.
Find a range/shop where you can try before you buy. And don’t just go once and buy the first time. Shoot them a few days or a week apart.
I have bought a couple of handguns that I shouldn’t have. One, after handling it in the store only, and another after shooting a few rounds out of it. In neither case did I really like them after owning them for a year or so and putting a few hundred rounds through them.
There is a certain feel that I like in a handgun, and neither of those pieces had it. Now, I don’t buy anything until I have shot them a few times and at a considerable time interval (two weeks) between shooting events.
Cabela’s, Washington state. Thirty four dollars a five hundred round brick. Yeah, I know it’s a drive. And tons and tons of .223
The draw of the 9mm is mostly the extra capacity, which doesn’t apply in CA. For that reason, one might choose to go with the larger caliber.
Living in Kalifornia will severely limit your choices. I would recommend a Glock 19. If that is out of your budget, then I would recommend a Ruger SR9c.
Think concealable, reliable, tough and comfortable
Smith and Wesson M&P Shield in 9mm or .40 Caliber
Your friend’s recommendation is hard to beat. One of the primary appeals of Sigs are their ergonomics. Fits the hand like a glove. That said, the only other I’d suggest would be and HK, and to be comparable, the P30.
One more thought, if you start out with the 225 or any other Sig or HK, you’ll have set the bar pretty high for yourself ;)
My wife loves her Sig p238.
Very accurate. All metal, feels nice & solid.
A little small for a man, but would be a great backup. I enjoy shooting it when she lets me.
You sound like the perfect candidate for an FN FiveseveN.
Light, negligible recoil, high capacity, ultra-reliable, but physically large.
Admittedly they’re priced at the upper end of stock handguns, but isn’t one of the perks of getting older the ability to afford the best toys?
Annie got one she loves it
The firing line
There is an urban legend that our local Walmart gets 1000- round boxes every so often. For $50.
That’s about right on a per-round basis, I figgur.
But I’ve never been there when the Angel descends.
So I dig out antique (1990 vintage) 50-round boxes for occasional self-pleasure.
