WEEKLY GARDEN THREAD DECEMBER 4, 2015
freerepublic | Dec. 4, 2015 | greeneyes

Posted on 12/04/2015 3:42:18 PM PST by greeneyes

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won't be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Greetings gardeners. It was a nice day today, with lots of sunshine to warm up the room through the patio doors. Currently, it's 42 degrees, and the little radiant fireplace heater is kicking in to help keep it warm in the room.

Sorry to be so late posting. It's been hectic, and I'm just taking a break from chores, bills, and reading IRS compliance data and other regulatory updates related to my volunteer work.

I did get a chance to read all your comments to last week's thread, and want to thank everyone for their comments and sharing of pictures.

The lemon tree is starting to put on buds for blossoms and has 2 lemons left that are almost ripe. It is way overdue for repotting, but I still haven't found the exact pot I want for it.

Hope everyone is doing well. Prayers up for all. Have a great weekend, and God Bless.

Too cold to do any gardening right now.

As things warm up I'll get more done, and hire me someone to help. I don't want to over do it.

Wise thinking. Glad to hear you are still thinking about gardening even a little. I usually stay in from December to March, unless I just have to go somewhere like the Dr. or the day is unusually warm.

Can your homegrown lemonade be far behind? Still have some tomatoes and swiss chard growing out back. Made a pannini out of them tonite for dinner. Last weekends drenching rains here in north Tx has the soil still damp but the real cold freezes have not hit just yet. Being originally from NY and having the garden still produce in Dec here is quite nice treat.

I imagine it is nice. We had a really nice November and December a couple of years ago, and the late garden veggies for salad at Christmas was indeed a rare treat.

Hi folks.

I now seem to be a resident of new England.

Gone are my bananas and mangoes.

Long Story. (sigh)

We still have a couple of little tomatoes left. Ripened & I
finally put them in the fridge. That’s about it now.

LOL. They are sweeter and juicier than those in stores - advantage of being ripened on the tree, I guess.

I gave away all my belongings, said goodbye to all my students, paid off the lease on my apartment and drove to Boston to take care of my Mom, to live with her and provide care.

Four days after i got to Boston, she died.

So now I am here.

At least I have FR.

(I am in the process of trying to sell her house, and then, who knows?)

Oh that is a very sad development. So sorry to hear about your loss. Prayers up for solace and best wishes for the future. My Dad passed on Pearl Harbor day anniversary in 2008.

I still miss him. I was able to get all his stuff moved into one room ( he lived with us for the last five years of his life).

However, I have never been able to stay in that room long enough to really go through every thing, so I am still in the process of sorting etc.

I am sending positive thoughts your way.

Thank you both for you prayers and kind thoughts.

Cleaning out65 years of accumulated stuff is quite a daunting task. However, as long as i stay busy, I’ll be ok.
