It was clearly a facemask, but interesting that the ref in back called it rather than the ref in front. The Detroit player knew he was nailed as soon as he saw the flag.
Thanks for the link. Even commentator Phil Simms agreed with the call. Lions' coach didn't argue or get upset. Neither did the Det player called for the penalty.
So, after that bizarre last-second truly desperate play with 3 or 4 rear laterals, eventually one being ridiculously tossed about 10 yard behind to GB QB Rodgers, where he is quickly wrapped up in what SHOULD have been a game winning tackle, the Det tackler momentary gets a finger on Rodgers' face mask twisting his head ever so slightly, resulting in a game-extending 15-yard penalty and automatic first down (it was a 4th down play) with ZERO time on the clock, GB is granted one final play from something like their own 35 or 40 yard line...with ***ZERO*** time left on the clock (0!), as a game cannot end on a defensive penalty, Rodgers somehow manages to scrambled clear, and while running forward, with all of his strength, and with that forward momentum, heaves a 65 or 70 yard long pass high up in the air which comes down a few yards deep in the Det end zone into a crowd of both Det and GB players, one GB player leaps high in the air making the immaculate 'hail mary' reception!!! As one freeper said last night just after it happened: "Ho-Lee-Cow"!! Has to be one of the most incredible finishes ever, all things considered!
These lateral plays seem to be more common since the Miami Duke game.
It adds another element of excitement to the game which I think is badly needed.
