Former Trump support explains to Ted Cruz why he no longer supports Trump

Ted Cruz was talking with a former Trump supporter in Iowa who said that one of the reasons he stopped supporting Trump is because he dissed Iowans:

Sounds like Trump's lashing out at Iowans back when they put Carson at the top of the polls had an unintended effect, that some of his supporters would leave him and move on to support Ted Cruz who is now virtually tied with Trump for the top spot in Iowa.

Well I gotta say that I personally love that strategy.

Thanks Trump!

If you have followed my postings, I have posted many pro Trump articles. Trump does not get a pass if he acts like a callous bully.

We haven’t seen Trump in a one-on-one debate yet...except for the 1000’s of interviews he has done with reporters. Seems to me he has fared quite well.

Still, I would pay money to watch Cruz debate Trump, Hillary or any other would-be president one-on-one.

You are putting words in Cruz’s mouth that were never there. Don’t bother dragging up the amendments he offered in 2013. Jeff Sessions has already said that both he and Cruz used those to help defeat the Amnesty bill.

I respect that you like Trump. I will vote for him in the general if he is the nominee. He is the only candidate besides Cruz who will have my support.

I can tell from Trump’s answers in the debates that he does not have depth on the issues. If he is the nominee, he had better take some time to prepare himself better than he has thus far.

Cruz has no crossover appeal

And therein lies a major problem for Ted Cruz's electability in the general.

See, the problem that a lot of FReepers have is that they assume that the average American cares as much about the minutiae of things like political debate and ideology as they themselves do. But the average American doesn't. Blame them or condemn them for it all you want, but the fact remains that they don't. The average American isn't going to be attracted to Ted Cruz lecturing - at length - about the original intent of the Commerce Clause. the average American isn't going to care that Cruz is a "constitutional scholar" or that he "argued cases in front of the Supreme Court. They. Won't. Care. Like I said, condemn them for being shallow, or stupid, or degenerate all you want, but it isn't going to change this fundamental reality.

And while Ted Cruz coming off like he's in a Harvard Lincoln-Douglas debate might appeal to politicos and think-tank hacks and FReepers and the like, it probably isn't going to play well with the general run of the voters. Even Ronald Reagan toned down the wonk-speak when he was speaking, which is why he is known as the Great Communicator, while Michael Dukakis is known as That Weirdo Guy Who Rode in the Tank and Lost to George Bush Senior.

Well, actually, I’m still a nominal Cruz supporter.

But unlike a lot of FReepers (and I’m speaking generally, not directing anything at you personally), I don’t feel like I have to have such a blind loyalty to a candidate that I can’t subject him to as much scrutiny as any of the others.

5:19 in the audio Trump waves his arms talking about Berghdal. (Keene, NH 9-30-15). The handicapped reporter mocking accusation does not hold up. I have seen many more arm movements like this in every rally. You are right. They are trying to find out what sticks.

I think you are correct. Americans want jobs and to be able to feed their families. They want the border secured so they have a sense of peace in their communities and homes. Most don’t give a crap about who is the best debater. And, Trump came out with “build the wall,” and it has stuck. Everyone else’s plans don’t get much attention. Build the Wall has stuck and continues to do so. Plus, Trump has built a massive empire in the business world and people see that as translating to jobs and the economy. Cruz doesn’t have that on his resume.

It helps that build the wall is actually about the best idea out there, too. Securing the border isn’t *just* about illegal immigrants. It’s ALSO about the very exploitable security risk of having a largely unsecured 2,000 mile border through which Muslim terrorists, among others, can (and already have) slide right through. most of the facets of Cruz’s multifaceted approach don’t even deal with that concern.

You are a transparent idiot, joyless.

Trump did not mock the reporter, whose disability does not include waving his arms wildly. He was, however, mocking his jellyfish-like spine for “retracting” his own reporting of fourteen years earlier, by caving to the template of his masters at the NY Slimes.

But you knew that, and raced to announce your sanctimonious leap nonetheless....tsk, tsk.

You should take a lesson in intelligence and class from your candidate.

Hey, lib: grow up and toughen up.

Your transparent, feigned prior support for Trump is sickening and comports rather nicely with your haughty, Kerry-like temperament.

It was obvious from watching the tape that Trump was mimicking and mocking the movements of the reporter, movements that are a result of his disability. If he wanted to call the reporter out on his reporting or retracting, he could have done that without behaving like a callous jackass.

What don’t you get regarding the fact that the reporter’s disability does NOT include waving his arms wildly? If he had a lisp and Trump mocked his lisp or had a limp and he mocked that, fine. The spineless reporter doesn’t wave his arms, not wildly and not at all. How do you mock something that isn’t even a trait of the person?

Answer, you don’t, your can’t and Trump didn’t. Period.

Unless, like you, one is looking for anything to use as a cudgel on the candidate rather far ahead of yours at the moment.

Your parroting of the media meme of the moment as a means of attempting to degrade the leader, only demeans you and the Senator from Texas.

Sorry you have no objectivity when it comes to Trump. Yes, the reporters arm movements Are a part of his disability.
