One brave woman in Illinois was arrested last week for standing up for herself in the face of tyranny. Pancake tyranny.
Denny's customer Natasha West was sharing an innocent plate of all-you-can-eat pancakes with her friends when a waitress approached her and told her that wasn't allowed. Instead of backing down, West decided to defend her right to share pancakes. Unfortunately, she dodged the check (not cool) and tried to hit the waitress (super not cool) and was subsequently arrested. Some people are just exceedingly passionate about breakfast foods.

The ultimate irony is that I came across this article while watching a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode about 'all-you-can-eat' (he didn't get arrested; in fact, he got an apology...but he wasn't abusive either and paid the bill. Duh).
I especially like (/s) the softball media approach, "A disagreement over the meaning of all-you-can-eat led to an arrest at a restaurant."
Friggin' media...
The rule is NOT All You And Your Friends Can Eat. You is understood and meant as being singular, not plural. Perhaps it could be changed to All One Can Eat or All You Alone Can Eat.
From just the introductory citation, it appears to me the lady’s a hustler, came in with the intent of playing the establishment (Steal This Book; Abbie Hoffman), got caught (which was the plan) to develop a scene that will be exploited.
If she were to ask for forgiveness, would that lead to a pancake makeup?
I once watched a woman at Wal-Mart who had led her brood of about 6 kids to the hot meal counter. They then EACH proceeded to get a sample from each hot dish being offered to decide what they wanted to buy. They stood there stuffing themselves. The guy behind the counter knew what they were doing, I knew what they were doing, THEY knew what they were doing but no one said anything. They were a protected class. At the end of about 5 different kinds of wings, chicken tenders and so on, the brood decided not to buy anything. After all, she just got them dinner for $0.00.
and this is why we can’t have nice things
She should be arrested. It is theft plain and simple.
It is not All-You-And-Your-Family-Can-Eat.
These people will steal anything not bolted down.
“Hypocritical All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Policy”
...laughable!
If they’d have meant “you, plural” the sign would have said “youse”, “y’uns” or “y’all”
she’ll just complain that the rules are stacked against her
They used to have these all-you-can-eat offers for sushi. Not only could you not share, you also had to eat all the rice.
“...All One Can Eat or All You Alone Can Eat.”
I think there should be a multi-page contract involved, signed before consumption of said pancakes begins.
“It is agreed that the party of the first part, having contracted with the party of the second part ...”
This exchanged allegedly occurred at a Chinese buffet.
The owner told a patron he was done but the patron complained that the sign said "all you can eat". The owner said, yes and you've had all you can eat.
Well, it had to be the evil business's fault, because Black Lives Matter...or something. :)
Restaurants have long had to deal with this and similar nonsense.
First are the check dodgers, who use all sorts of schemes to get a free meal then get away. At their worst, they try to foist their tab on some innocent person also there.
Related to these are the insect droppers, who put a bug in their mostly eaten food, and refuse to pay for it. Some of these threaten the restaurant with a lawsuit while making a big scene to gross out the other customers.
Waitresses typically spot families that try to cheat an all you can eat, because only one person orders food. Funnier is when they start putting food in their pockets, because they will often try to steal runny or juice food (Mmmm, a pants pocket full of pistachio pudding!). Lower down are those that steal tableware, salt and pepper shakers, condiment and artificial creamer cups.
Then there are the non-tippers, who just hurt the workers, and worse, the tip snatchers, who steal other people’s tips.
Last but not least are when really filthy vagrants come in, order and pay for a cup of coffee, and nurse it for a few hours, or want endless refills.
It was suburban Chicago.
“Youse” is the correct term there.
Free Betty Maltese! Oh, wait...um
She’s taking retribution for what they did to Aunt Jemima.
Where I come from "y'all" is singular. The plural is "all y'all".
(And fixing all those ' and " is still a pain.)
