If LSD is popular anywhere, you know that burned-out, brain-dead hippie rag “Rolling Stone” will step up to report on it.

LSD puts your brain into a wave state similar to dreaming. Close enough that your brain actually thinks you’re asleep. Your body doesn’t get rest, but your brain feels like it’s resting. Definitely a tool for increasing how long you can go without sleep. Could be some pretty goofy code though.

Gee, don’t Silicon Valley employers have drug testing programs?

You don’t want people using “substances” when they are working with chemicals and machinery, both of which are necessary for computer manufacturing.

You cannot take LSD on any kind of daily basis. It will have no effect at all.

You have to dose, then wait about a week, then dose again, otherwise you are wasting your drugs.

Don’t ask me how I know this.

I won’t be indulging - nitrous oxide was a bad trip. I don’t want to imagine what LSD would do to me.

I guess this explains why a lot of their software drives normal people insane.

Cut it down to basics. LSD has been used to make people act crazy so that they will fail a sanity hearing. It simply makes a sane person insane for a period of time. If you’ve ever taken it or been around people who have taken it this fact is as obvious as the sun in the sky. The idea that people will be better at their jobs if they take LSD is pure delusion. I’d fire anyone who showed up to work loaded on LSD (and have done so). You don’t need people around who would stick their fingers in a running printing press.

I know for a fact that mask designers were using LSD as far back as the early 1980’s, and suspected it earlier.

Bad idea. Some developers have “the knack” for what I call blank-sheet (or blank-screen) design. They have that blend of experience and creativity and can be given assignments in only the broadest terms. Other developers, though they may be clever coders, great maintainers/debuggers, just fundamentally need more explicit direction. I have no personal experience with LSD or similar concoctions, but I have a hard time believing it would help.

I applaud those who are trying this. I could see that in small doses this would break down internal buffers and preconceived notions, and still allow the user to function normally and safely.

There are a lot of Neanderthal perceptions about LSD, and all of them are wrong.

Im thinking we might see some interesting products in about 5 years. Ones that make you say “how in the hell did they ever dream THIS up?”

Oh, and also some odd, rather young looking, homeless in the bay area, walking around collecting trash in their hat. Brains fried.

I suspect the outcome will be similar with those who use alcohol: some can handle it and remain relatively unharmed, while those with a more addictive personality may be permanently altered and in negative ways.
The article says the doses are ‘minute’. How closely will the employees be scrutinized to make sure nobody takes a handful of these ‘minute’ doses?

Whenever I hear about somebody ‘dabbling’ in high dosage LSD
I think of what happened to Diane Linkletter in October of 1966. Diane, 20 year old daughter of Talk Show pioneer Art Linkletter, jumped out of her sixth storey apartment window in West Hollywood. Diane’s death from her injuries was largely seen as a suicide done after months of taking LSD plus despondency that her career was not taking off as expected.
