The year I got the lawn mower, I was ecstatic. :-)
I told your hubby you'd love it and that you preferred the push model since you only had 2 acres...........
To: Sacajaweau
Last year your hubby asked me "HT, my wife said she wants to get out and do more things, what can I do?"
That's when I suggested the lawnmower............

Heaven forbid that people do what they want.
EMTs, police, firefighters and military people work every holiday and no one thinks a thing about it.
Retail people have to work on Black Friday and you’d think the world was ending.
Most retailers make 1/3 of their annual sales during the holidays. Lose a day, lose a lot. That’s how they pay people during the slow times when they are losing money.

Camping outside a store for hours just to lose your money for temporary stuff. Won’t get any competition from me.

"Search "micro-aggression" for the necessary mindset!.
Where did I say that "race" had anything to do with the original term? Show me.
I said I wouldn't be surprised if "Black Friday" took on a whole new meaning to the BLM crowd....we'll see tomorrow in Chicago....and next year all over, won't we.
Search YOUR mindset for your "micro-aggression".

You are such a lovable care-bear. I salute you for your concern.
The term itself still stinks.

Why would I ever want to emulate what folks did in Communist countries and stand in line for anything?

Interesting observations. I'm a man and I agree about the football on Thanksgiving. It takes away from the family experience as we men turn into a bunch of zombies. Now they have games from 1PM to almost midnight. As much as I love football, I do not have the TV on at all in the house today. We play some music over the stereo and play board games or cards together. In fact in a few minutes, we are heading out for our traditional Thanksgiving Day after-dinner walk. We go about 3 miles in a loop around our neighborhood with the dogs and all as the sun sets.
Kitchen is already mostly cleaned up with some wines and pies to come back to after the walk.

I got my targeted Black Friday uber-bargain during my lunch period online yesterday. I have long lusted for a Kitchenaid Artisan mixer, and when my old Sunbeam broke its handle and developed suspicious reddish spots on its blades, I decided THIS WAS THE YEAR. And I scored my target mixer, in a beautiful color, for the equivalent of less than half price. There was a rebate in the form of a Visa card, a 15% store discount on everything, store "cash" I can spend in the store (lots of things I purchase in this store), a rebate from my credit card and a rebate from the launch site to get to the store website. I stood in no line at all. Oh, and free shipping! Today, in a few minutes, I scored a nice cover designed for that mixer for 40% off AND a very unique resin planter so perfect for my reptile terrarium that I had already designed it in my mind. Imagine how great it was to find it actually existed AND was 40% off, with free shipping.
Do NOT denigrate Black Friday shoppers. The ones in line just apparently don't know how to do it Online.
Happy Thanksgiving, my dear fellow FReepers!

Sounds like the old days.
Of course, when I was a kid, we didn't even have a TV.

OK, then that actually makes it kind of funny.

What Thanksgiving Day tradition? I read that people used to work on TG AND Christmas, and that it was Progressives who urged them to take a day off for the “people’s holiday.” Normally good Christians and Jews already take a day off per week to honor God. Lincoln didn’t call for a day off work, but Wilson and FDR did.

Enjoyed learning something new, had no idea it came from a legitimate phrase. I went to my first Black Friday two years ago. I stayed local & shopped our wonderful square. Met really nice people in line, supported local businesses & it was a safe, charming environment. I’m a big believer in shopping local whenever possible. I appreciate all the little shops & the nice extras they do like free gift wrapping, hot chocolate, ornament making for kids...........nice and old fashioned.
Anyway, thanks for schooling me on BF. We just finished eating. I am entering zombie mode!

Excuse my misunderstanding what you meant by
nothing at all except as an ugly term. It's still a perfectly legitimate phrase.
