The man, who seemed to be on drugs, went inside and zoned in on a young skateboarder, the witnesses said.
The man approached the skateboarder aggressively, prompting the young man to stand up and whack the first man once in the head. The witnesses described the incident as self-defense.
"He just came abruptly into the store, looked at the kid, and said, 'Did I stutter?'" a witness told KTLA. "He took at step forward towards the kid as if he were going to attack him, and that's when the kid hit him with the skateboard."
"He did what anybody, I guess, would do when they feel attacked. They're going to protect themselves," the witness said.

Being that it’s CALIFORNIA, I sure hope he has INSURANCE on that skateboard, or he’s looking at some HUGE legal fees.
According to the article the junkie was taking swings at random passersby, starting pounding on the glass storefront, and then confronted the skateboarder.
Prayers up for the young man. I doubt he got up that morning with any plans of killing someone. Very hard to live with, I’m sure, even if the skater had no choice.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Too bad the kid has to live with this now.
“Perhaps this kid deserved to be approached.”
Say he skated rudely, flipped him the finger, and got away. He goes into Starbucks and sits. IT’S OVER.
The Ahole who came in was now the aggressor and was no longer acting in defense.
And now he got his bully lamp blowed out.
“Too bad the kid has to live with this now.”
I prefer to think of it as “having the opportunity to live with it”.
It sounds as though the altercation started outside the Starbucks, out of the eyes of the witnesses.
The weirdo should have remembered the first rule concerning “skateboards”. Always wear your helmet.

Did I stutter? BONK. No, but you did ring a bit.
If you follow someone into a building and then act like you’re going to attack them it doesn’t really matter what they *said* to you outside.
If there was a problem outside the skateboarder disengaged and went inside and was followed. No matter what might have happened outside the dead guy was now the aggressor.
This is basic stuff.
That isn’t how the Washington Post saw fit to report the shooting at the Black Lives Matter protest.
Counter protesters were videoing (and heckling?) the protesters and left. A group/mob of BLM protesters pursued the leaving counter protesters. Some reports said that at least one counter protester was assaulted and then the gun fire started (non-lethal injuries).
And on the comments sections of the major news sites (I don’t read FR at work) libs said that ‘proved’ Saint Trayvon was justified to assault Zimmerman in the name of ‘self-defense’.
