This video contains images of military aircraft shot down, missing during the World War II and found nowadays. Some aircraft have been restored and can fly again!

I sill use that name.
Amazing what you can do with a lot of time, a lot of helpers, and a lot of money!
The P38 in the European theater seem to be related to both British fuel and the P38 inter cooler set up in the cold and damp of Europe
the XP 38 crash was after a cross country speed run do to engine idle icing while waiting in the pattern to land
Speaking of “Missing planes” ...
I read a story here on FR last year, maybe the year before, about a planned dig in Southeast Asia for some lost Spitfires.
Apparently a British outpost had just received a shipment of some 80 BRAND NEW Spits during the war. But the base (in Burma, was it?) was about to be overrun by the Japanese so they buried the crates to keep the planes out of enemy hands.
The location of the burial was lost until recently, when a local remembered the location The backers of the project were hopeful that at least sme of the Spits would be in good enough shape to rebuild.
Then the story disappeared. I’ve been watching for it, but nothing.
Anybody know if those Spitfires were found?
You made me recall that story. Weren’t they like 80’ deep or some outlandish depth? Hopefully somebody has an update.
Burma Spitfire Mystery Is Solved
The hunt for up to 36 planes which many believed had been buried in Burma at the end of World War Two ends in disappointment.

I am a member of the Commemorative Air Force. We changed the name back in the ‘90s in response to pressure from the usual suspects.
Presently we fly 165 aircraft in 60 squadrons spread all over the US. My squadron is the B-29/B-24 Squadron based in Dallas:
I presently crew on these two aircraft:

It’s a great organization and we are all volunteers. Come join us!
Disappointing.
But thanks for the link, Joe! “Somebody can answer that” should be the motto of FR.
