GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) There is a new battle of BBQ and this one deals with which style is healthiest.
Insurance company Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) took a look.
A post compared the Eastern style to the Western style.
The Eastern style comes out on top when it comes to being healthier.
BCBSNC says it is because the Western take on BBQ requires a bit more attention and more flavorings meaning more fat and sodium.
It tipped the scales to the East too because the whole pig is used and not just dark meat on the pork shoulder.
BCBSNC says pick the Eastern style for your heart and cholesterol health.
Isn’t it mustard based???
When you talk to him, tell him you met a fan of his on here... Hope he and his wife and the new child do very well in the future...
The only mustard based I’ve experienced is in SC....and it’s mostly mustard based all over SC. I don’t particularly like it.
The Atlanta bbq I’ve had was vinegar based pork - very similar to eastern NC stuff....but now Atlanta’s grown so much, I’m sure there’s all kinds of “Atlanta” bbq’s out there.
I’ve tasted NC, TX, Santa Maria, KC, and others and they’re all good!
I have to be honest...67 years old...traveled all around this country and plenty overseas (military)...Never had brisket...*L*
Great...I’ll email him that now.....along with your best wishes.
BBQ is PIG! Anything else is just burnt meat!
OK...Thanks...I think I had the two tied together SC and GA...
IMO cole slaw is a natural with any style barbecue.
I agree....rarely do I run into a regional bbq I don’t like. We’re all partial to what we grew up with....but come on....beef or pork.....done right.....over a fire? What could be bad about any of it?
The one that comes off MY smoker.”
Well, in that case guess we’ll all come to dinner on Saturday to try it out. LOL.
Lexington BBQ is good, but can’t touch College BBQ in Salisbury.
OK...I used to listen to K.C. and Carmen on the way to work and Bill coming home...Now, I’m retired, so I catch whatever I can...*LOL*
Well those states share a long border....so I imagine there’s some cross border bbqs going on......
Everyone head to Rebelbse’s house for BBQ this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brian at 106.1 is a good friend of mine.....he’s program director and does some of the news casts.....and he knows of my covert ties to a major major talk show host that now resides on 106 after many moons on PTF......(shhhh)
It is so, so goood.
Be sure to check operating hours. On Fridays and maybe Saturdays they close for a couple hours of the afternoon. Closed Sunday.
Do not fail to get the beans (I get the small cup).
And the fried taters are fresh cut. I think they put too much sauce on the sammitches. And iirc they will put slaw on if you don’t tell them not too.
How about that!!! I listen to 106.1 at noon...(big silly grin)
Well...ECU is up on Central Florida 24-7 at the half...I’m gonna watch the 2nd half...Catch you later C. Edmund...
Bye, y’all...............
