The unwanted extras in your morning filter coffee
Science Daily ^ | November 17, 2015 | Taylor & Francis

Kettles showed leaching to be well within the CoE specified release limit, however coffee machines showed in some cases alarmingly high levels of lead, especially post-decalcification, one particular machine giving results 150 times the recommended limit.

Levels of nickel, manganese, chromium and zinc exceeded limits up to fourfold. On the plus side concentrations of leached elements did reduce throughout each individual day and overall throughout the 3 days testing combined.

Filter machines showed significantly higher levels than Pod machines.

Our coffee at work is so bad that Amazon Indians come to dip their arrows in it.

Not a very clear article.
Sounds like they tested new machines and the machines gave high levels for a few days then were OK.
They recommend new machines be flushed a few more times. At least that’s what I think is their point.

Yes.
Coughee.

“WARNING - Not to be taken internally!” - Slings and Arrows

In 12 cup drip percolator pot, fill to 6 cup mark with water.
In filter, put 6 heaping scoops of coffee.
Medium roast works best, just make sure it’s a robust blend.
Found a maxwellhouse ‘medium roast’ that was rather anemic.
Put pinch of salt in filter, about as much as it would take to cover the surface of a dime with one even layer.
This keeps the coffee from tasting burned too quickly, it doesn’t age well brewed this way.

Brew, recirculate if need be, usually not.
Add sugar and dairy creamer.
Creamora and coffeemate are not recommended unless you like the heart racing that Ranger Pudding gives.
That, and the nondairy creamer will give you both a headache and a buzz with the coffee.

I usually put about 8 spoons of sugar in this stuff, it ends up being like Russian Kava, thick and sweet with that bitter overtone to it.

Oh, and I am NOT responsible for seeming demonic possession of the coffeepot, or the coffeepot ending up acting as if it has been damaged.

"Found a maxwellhouse -medium roast- that was rather anemic."

Maxwell house and many other high volume coffees have for several years now been robusta coffee instead of arabica. Robusta is inferior, cheaper coffee. I'll bet that maxwell house no longer states what type it is, which means it's probably robusta.

That ham will kill you!

To be specific, the islamists will kill you once Sharia Law is in place, and you are reported as being a ham-eater.

So first the hit the soldered tubing with acid to remove the natural calcium coating from the water, exposing new lead and zinc for fresh water to pull off.....then over days the calcium magnesium comes back to insulate water from lead.....idiotic test!

Do the test without acid washing it first, like the coffee cup normally sees!

Maybe I'm not so much the coffee conosur as you are. We drink Maxwel house or Folgers, whichever is on sale, and I frequently note to myself what a good cup of coffee I get out of our Bunn coffeemaker.

Six cups of water with six heaping scoops of coffee? That’s like drinking flavoured water.

Six cups of water with 7 or 8 heaping scoops of coffee. Brew. Pour into a cup. Nuke. Add real cinnamon, cacao, cream and splenda. Drink carefully to avoid singing your soft palate. Get to work/workout.

Give thanks to God that you’re alive. :)
