How do I find a thread talking about the news story I've been hearing about? I've looked for an hour and turn up nothing.
Social Security changes affecting spouse loophole passed in this recent budget.
Are you logged in, and did your last Freepathon check clear?
here’s a decent explanation

Post a new thread and wait for someone to say, “already posted.” The responder will usually post a link to the old thread.
Is this the thread you were looking for:
Congress Planning to Close Social Security Loopholes

I added the key “word,” “SocialSecurity” -— If you click on that above, it will show you articles that might be what you are looking for.
the new feature I like is where they will “borrow” money from the OASDI fund and give it to the SSDI fund.
” file and suspend “ was never a “ loophole”
The benefits claimants were entitled to the dependent benefits under the law
The wage earner’s decision to suspend claiming his/ her own benefit was part of the law
Don’t know about a FR thead but here are some from the media groups.

I clicked on your link, but it says nothing about the myriad issues with Free Republic's search engine.
yikes...that actually was the question. sorry
in search: (upper right hand on the search page) I typed social security and selected titles.
What you are looking for is in the search results.
An article you might find interesting is http://www.pbs.org/newshour/making-sense/12-secrets-maximizing-social-security-benefits-new-rules/, written by Larry Kotlikoff, an expert on Social Security for the average person.
fyi: I searched for:
social
then security
then ss
then loophole
then spouse
and gave up with this post
Is this change to stop the accountants using loopholes and ‘cheating’ for their clients? Or is this change actually impacting the normal retiree? If a normal retiree doesn’t even know about this it’s a scam that only the folks that hire accountants learn about anyway.
did you read my link?
This was the basis for discussing the new SS changes in another forum.
Best wishes
There is no thread. Your post was an off forum rant cause their industry will be hurt.
It’s not a scam. It was part of the Social Security rules.
