Microsoft has released Build 10586 of Windows 10 to "Windows Insider" previewers, as the first major update to the operating system nears release.
This build bears all the signs of a RTM (Release to Manufacturing) release, if the Insider rollout is successful.
The build number does not show on the desktop, and in Windows Update it is called "th2_release Professional". The abbreviation is short for Threshold 2, this being the codename for Windows 10.
You can think of Threshold 2 as being a fixed version of the initial release. A future release codenamed Redstone is rumoured to be coming late in 2016, with more far-reaching changes, though thanks to Microsoft's adoption of the "Windows as a service" model it may still be called Windows 10.
During the installation, messages appeared on the screen assuring me that "All your files are exactly where you left them" (a puzzling assurance) and "We’ve got some new features to get excited about."
This second message is presumably addressed at those upgrading from the first Windows 10 release, since there is little new since build 10565 last month.
There are apparently a few fixes, including an end to black tab previews in Edge, Windows no longer forgetting how you login, and "more reliable" downloads from the Windows Store.
More positively, recent Windows 10 builds do feel smoother and more polished than the first release. Those who normally wait for the first service pack before installing a new version of Windows might want to give it a try.

IMO an operating system should be geared first to the good folks just like you.
All the bells and whistles should be there of course, but hidden away and available for those that need them.
If you have to learn to use an operating system just to accomplish simple tasks like web-browsing then it’s crap!

For the past year and a half I have no had a single update on my Win XP Pro. I have a Win 7 laptop that hasn’t had any updates. My browser are Firefox 15.2 and 16.0. I do not update either of those also.
From what I have learned updates add more ways for them to track your daily usage and put addons onto your browser so you can see fancy advertisements, which of course they get paid for.
I have AdBlock Plus and NoScript addons.
At the end of every day I run CCleaner and MRU Blaster before I shutdown. Once a month I run Malwarebytes.
Since I changed to solid state hard drives the machine runs faster than I can type.
If you can see where I’m doing something wrong, please tell me. It’s been five years or so since I have had a virus.

Okay, so my techie family is slightly more than a bit amused by me, but I email friends, send links to 2 TEA PARTY groups for their respective news letters, email with my grandson and kiddos, so all is right with the world. If I am somehow forced to give up on what I know how to use ( and bear in mind I am NOT very good at learning new stuff on my laptop to begin with ), I might have to just give up being on line. And THAT isn't what should happen!

I just upgraded from Vista Home Premium to 7Pro on my primary computer after Vista started getting buggy and I couldn’t resolve the problem that was causing spontaneous reboots/shutdowns with no error messages or dumps (not bad memory .. tried that first)... Luckily one of my kids laptops with 7 was physically destroyed so I was able to use that COA/license and upgrade my pc... I haven’t seen any real improvement with windows since W2K-Pro in 1999 ,, just added bloat and gingerbread ,, with 8/8.1/10 and the spectre of monthly/yearly license fees with 10 I’m keeping 7 forever or going unix ... I have Linux on several old XP era pc’s.
I just bought Win 7 from Amazon so I can revert. Win 10 makes my new $2k laptop unusable. Unfortunately it came with 8.1 pre-installed so I can’t just roll back.
I held on to my XP until my laptop gave up the ghost. When looking to get a new one, they all came with 8 or 8.1 ore whatever, so my tech guy said that he knew about where to get one with 7 and I bought that one. It's just like XP and I'm happy with it.
The option to have Win7 as the OS was extra. Little did I know.

Microsoft's development process has matured over the years, but they still rush to market with a solid kernel but flaky features. This is their first big patch release and likely the stabilizer that will put most people over the fence to upgrade.
