Seems to me that Will similar to Levin was defending Reagan against BOR and the left.

Will tried to put the memo in context. BOR wouldn't let him.

Yet at the end, BOR did admit that Reagan was fine and the content in the memo wasn't pursued further.

Which leaves me to ask, what was the fight about?

You are right! George Will bashed Ronald Reagan with glee prior to and during much of his administration.

George Will is and always has been a GOPe HACK of the worst order. He also is a pompous ass who thinks himself a much better writer than he is.

As to BOR going to Harvard, well, that he spouts off several times. The JFK School of Government is no big deal Its not like the medical, law, or business school. And I know this because I once recommended someone for admission to the school- one with mediocre credentials, and that person was accepted.
