They reveal how Nicholson, despite his maniacal performance and playboy reputation, acted as a father-figure and mentor for the then 10-year-old girls from London, England. The pair say Nicholson took naps on the floor between scenes to stay in character, talked about missing his daughter Jennifer from his first marriage to Sandra Knight and appeared to be a more devoted family man than his public image ever personified. Lisa, who today is a lawyer and Louise, a published scientist, both 46, also revealed their role in the hit flick did more harm than good to their fledgling acting careers.
They claim they were turned down by a number of acting schools because theyâd been in the horror movie.
âOh my God, we loved it,â Louise and Lisa Burns say about their once in a lifetime gig working with Kubrick.
âEveryday felt like weâd been invited to a very exclusive party and we were the youngest, luckiest people to be there.â

Shelley Duvall was good in her role there, but the best example ever of perfect casting was her portrayal of
Olive Oyl in Popeye.

Not being snarky or disrespectful, I think they are scarier now than back then. I’m sorry (not).

âStanley was such a perfectionist and had planned exactly how he was going to pour the blood over us, so our main concern was just staying really, really still. âWe only had one set of blue dresses, so we had to get it right the first time otherwise the blood would ruin the dresses. âI remember that was very challenging for Stanley because he liked to do many takes.â âThose two dresses have since been cleaned and are touring the world, but if you look closely you can still see some blood stains on one of them. âWe really hated them, they were horrible to wear and quite scratchy. Neither of us were particularly âgirlyâ as kids, so they werenât our kind of clothes.'

I'm glad they survived. Usually things don't end well for child stars.
Seriously creepy movie with relatively little gore.

Interesting that they spent so much time on the set considering their brief time on screen.

They are quite pretty today.
I would not have allowed my child to be in a movie where there is nudity.
I barely ( no pun) remember it being in there, but I do remember it was.

Insidious is another movie that is creepy without gore, nudity, and having every word with the F word. No doubt one can make a very scary movie without resorting to being extreme graphic. Psycho is another one. Had a hard time to take a shower after watching that movie as a kid. LOL

I would not have allowed my child to be in a movie where there is nudity. I remember no nudity. But I wouldn't let my child portray an ax-murder victim. Nudity pales in comparison to that (no pun intended).

They were probably better off leaving Hollywood. So many of the child stars wind up broken, twisted and dysfunctional.
I was struck by the careful way Danny, the youngest actor was dealt with. The director knew he was dealing with a 5 year old child, who was deemed as too young to know the full meaning of this storyline. The director made an agreement with the actors not to tell Danny the entire narrative.
In the scene where “Mom” Shelly Duval runs around the house hold both toddler and dagger, I believe she held a doll, not the child. I wonder if directors of today take a child’s age into consideration when describing their character’s role to a child actor.
