In every thread and post today I keep seeing symbols like this it’

I think they are supposed to be a code for apostrophes and other symbol for quotation marks, but why am I seeing them?

I have been posting without using the apostrophe. Makes me less crazy.

It is because of posting after the spell check and not doing the preview again; a problem with Free Republic’s software that Jimbo should address. Have seen it often but corrected by doing a final spell check on Microsoft word and making the final post. No problems.

You are late to the party - it’s a glitch and the FR kitties are working to fix it.

Just forget it for the time being. If I see those when I am writing a post or I copy something into my post (that’s when I get them), I go to “preview” and delete those symbols and put the “ or ‘ in there. To prevent it in your writing or copying, you can get rid of some by eliminating ‘. Don’t use contractions, such as I’m or won’t. Write “I am” or “will not” to get rid of the symbols for contracted words.

You may note that when you post a reply and then preview your reply you will see similar “codes” for apostrophes ,etc. Somehow this has bled over to the postings on the page. Easy to work around though so no big deal.

Yesterday I read that people who have installed the free Windows 10 download are experiencing this issue.

There was no information about the OS they had been using before installing Windows 10.

Several people on the Microsoft Community Blog offered solutions to the problem, but there were no responses from people who may have tried to use them.
