getting chills up my spine...
bttt
Glad I didn’t read that at night! (shudder)
A tale well told Swordmaker
Great story. Thanks for sharing.
Great story. I believe it is true. “It’s the wind!” said Mr. Smith.” It is sad how some people are scared about ghosts who need help. The decease man and murdered woman buried in the wall were stuck both physically on earth and spiritually in limbo.
I blame the younger brother for not burying the two bodies in a field while saying prayers and sprinkling holy water. His failure lead to traumatized children and confused parents.
There is a museum in Rome and a small room on the side of the church with about fifteen items in a case. Each item contains a burn mark from a ghost in purgatory begging for prayers. Truly frightening how much people need our prayers both in this life and the next.

Very nicely done. Has all the elements of a good, spooky story including the repetition of the scariest part in the middle...knock, knock, knock, slamming door, it’s the wind, it’s a dream, etc. This would be a great story to dramatically read or act out to youngsters (not too young!) around a campfire or in a candle-lit room. That it involves real events is even spookier. Love the humorous tidbit that the only building to survive the site was a corner of a state office building. The ghost would have been frightened away for sure in that environment.
Years ago, Curly used to post ghost stories. I remember one thread where a FReeper that had been a spec op told a story about night operations in the Pacific NW and using night vision equipment and what they ran into.
Still spooks me when I go out to close up the barn . . .
Cool ghost story!!
Thanks Swordmaker! I have read this before, but the following still gave me goosebumps!
“Two minutes later the closet door SLAMMED open without knocking! A bloodcurdling scream, the most terrifying sound Irene had ever heard, echoed out of the closet! SOMETHING DARK ran out of the closet, around the bed, opened the door to the landing and slammed it behind it!”
Ooohh, spooky!
Wow I believe, I myself had so many experience with the paranormal. Sounds as if the spirits of the young woman was crying out and the murder spirit was restless. They needed to buried not entomb between walls.
A building could be built there since the body has been recover, however one needs to pray over the property and use sage and salt and a candle to help cleanse the place because where ever a murder occurs it leaves a negative energy where the crime occur.
Thank you for the story, yes it does give one goosebumps. Will FR have a Halloween Thread for ghost stories?
Great story. I read it every year when you post it. I also have my own, from personal experience. When I was 8 years old, my family lived in a run down apartment complex in Jacksonville, Florida. This would have been in 1984. This complex was surrounded by several other equally run down apartment complexes. One evening my whole family was outside throwing a nerf football around with other people that lived there. Is was getting dark, so my step dad told me and my little sister to go inside. We lived on the second floor. My sister and I go to our room, and began playing in there. We both look up toward the bedroom door as a “shadow man” steps in and turns off the light. We both screamed. I jumped up and turned the light back on. We then ran to the front door and down the stairs. My mom was several months pregnant with our brother at the time and was sitting on the stairs. We asked her if anyone came down the stair and she said, “No.” We thought that she was joking, but she wasn’t. The back door was always blocked to keep people from breaking in that way. I do not know for sure what it was that we saw. We both saw it. It came into the room, and without a sound turned off the light. It looked exactly like a person’s shadow, except solid and three dimensional. My sister won’t talk about it anymore, she gets creeped out.
I worked on Ghost Adventures for a full season years ago..
I was one of those fools who had to lay down the cable for the cameras power during the “lockdown” as the stars didn’t do it for obvious reasons. One of the episodes with the word “penitentiary” I and another dude rolled the cable at the ground floor and this black mist walked in front of me and hit my baseball cap.
Very interesting.
There’s a house in the neighborhood where I grew up that was built in the 1860’s and the family living there in the last few decades has had several unexplained experiences, such as the sound of footsteps going through the house but nobody was walking through at the time.
A Very cool story!
