UNITED NATIONS Japan's prime minister said Tuesday that his nation needs to attend to its own demographic challenges posed by falling birth rates and an aging population before opening its doors to refugees.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced at the U.N. General Assembly that Japan is ramping up assistance in response to the exodus of refugees to Europe from the Middle East and Africa.

Is this resent?
I read some years ago that blood citizenship was the rule.
We think alike.
This is the Japanese socially awkward as they get! It's their, "hey Muzzies, F.U."
Well you know what they say about great minds ;)
No. Not most of us anyway
Don’t know how recent it is . More info here : http://www.tokyoimmigration.jp/eng/kika.html
I’m seriously thinking about applying . Now a permanent resident .
Japan demonstrates the ONLY rational approach to this whole ‘refugee’ nonsense.
I just decided to apply for Japanese citizenship . I’ll let you know how it goes .
Japan is one of the hardest countries to get a visa. Here in the Philippines, people get nursing degrees to work overseas... but even though Japan has an aging population, it is almost impossible to get a job as a caretaker or factory worker...
when they needed factory workers a decade ago, they recruited ethnic Japanese from South america to work.
and instead of recruiting Filipino caregivers for the elderly, they are devising robots to do the work.
We live in a small town in the Kumamoto countryside and my wife works with a Filipino nurse .
Good for them and so should we!!!
Self-preservation has a certain sensibility about it.
Self-preservation sure beats self-destruction .
Yeah, it is racist. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. They say themselves that their demographics are short on new, working age blood. They just don’t want non-Japanese to fit the gap. And that’s racist. But, so am I.
Yeah, well, I guess people need to be taught this.
Yes, and I have one distant cousin working there as a nurse...and of course Japan gives visas to “ entertainers”.
but you have to know the language, and few are hired. It is easier to work in Saudi, the UK or Singapore, where English is used. Or even Korea...we have Korean language schools here so locals can work in factories there.
We used to call those entry level positions.
Sure!
Go ahead and take those lousy so-called mah-met refugees!
Put them in a place just for them ... right next to the Fukushima nuclear plants!!
I'm also guessing that there is a dominant group (Chinese?) who are firm about crime & behavior. They also have a strong work ethic.
Years ago, while summering in France, I was harassed constantly by Arab youth who spent their days hanging around public places & trying to pick up girls. That was literally all they did. No jobs, hobbies, interests -- only girls. Of course, they didn't have to work; they were being supported by the social welfare system. (They were probably unemployable anyway, judging by their level intelligence.)
To my surprise, the French were either passive or indifferent. Some expressed to me their dismay at the government; most, however, simply tried to ignore this menace growing in their back yards (the housing projects in the suburbs).
Now they are paying for it dearly. If they had only been tough with these people in the first place, or with immigration, they wouldn't be encountering a Muslim nightmare.
Why they are not taken in by the huge area comprising the rest of the muslims religion of peace,
I kmow why, but people need to seriously ask.
That is where they belong. Nowhere else.
