The Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-2, on Thursday night in Game 5 of their division series to advance to the National League Championship Series.
In a much-ballyhooed pitching matchup between the young Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom and the Dodgers ace Zack Greinke, deGrom pitched through a great deal of adversity and hung on for a gritty six innings to earn the victory. He gave up six hits and three walks, but struck out seven and allowed only two earned runs.

Why can't they just call it the pennant like when I was a kid. Winning hte pennant was a big deal. Winning the NLCS? Whatever.
Mets? Sounds like a town in France. Go, Cubs!
If the Blue jays try flipping the bats I want the the royals to threw fastballs if ya get what I’m saying.
Was ‘Back to the Future II’ right about Cubs?

I just want to give Ron Santo and Ernie Banks an opportunity to smile down from heaven. Two of baseball’s classiest guys on any team . . .
I don’t get it, why do the Metropolitan hair boys get home field advantage. The Chicago Cubs had the better record and took the seasonal series..............this would never happen in football.
I am no fan of Chicago. Not at all. I’m a Met fan from when I lived in NYC.
However, I’ve got to say that I wish someone didn’t have to lose the NLCS this time around.
Everybody is a Cubs fan. How can you not be?
I was lucky enough to see a game at Wrigley. I’ve seen them at the old Yankee Stadium and at Shea.
The idea of either team - Mets or Cubs - going to the World Series is like the anticipation a kid feels on Christmas Eve.
I say this being a lifelong A’s and Giants fan too.
I was sad to see the Cards lose too. The class act of baseball, with the greatest fans on Earth. I actual saw a post from a Cards fan wishing the Cubs well and rooting for them to go to the World Series.
Tinkers to Evers to Chance . . .
OK Cubs fans-here ya go some nostalgia-Old Harry C

I grew up listening to Harry, only he was a Cardinals announcer back then. I believe that Augie Busch fired him around ‘68 or ‘69.
I lived during those days in South Ozone Park, pretty far from Flushing but when we weren’t playing ball we rode far and wide.
Even rode across the GWB to visit family in Jersey.
This was an amazing win, Murphy and the pitchers came through, Wright, Cespedes and Duda need to step up.
Duda was great defensively though.
He was the coolest, right up there with the Mad Hungarian, Al Hrabosky!
I think they still officially win the pennant, but you’re right, nobody uses that term anymore.
The idea of “winning the pennant” has fallen into disuse in our language.
Sort of like Indian summer. When’s the last time you heard anyone talk about Indian summer weather???
Gotta hand it to you, that is the funniest post I have ever seen.
The Mets won their division. The Cubs are a ‘wild card’.
Let’s go Mets!
Kudos to Collins, Murph, deGroms, Thor, and Familia.
Go Cubs!
Sheeet!! I came home early last night especially to watch the game, then fell asleep! But I do remember the Murphy homer that gave them the 3-2 lead. Strange, but when I first read the title of this tread I somehow took it as the Mets lost.
