well goly gee I thought the donnie was the only one who was concerned over this issue??/s
The solution is simple: If CNBC goes through with their changes, all the candidates should simply wave to the crowd, state that they did not agree to the unilateral format changes, and walk off the stage living CNBC with three hours of air time to fill and then having to deal with the companies that paid good money expecting about 30 million people to see their commercials. That might be the straw that puts CNBC out of business.
So your best friend can make you do anything he wants? Wow, you sure are easily manipulated.
A debate is not supposed to be an opportunity for media poseurs to get attention. They have turned what used to be a way to actually assess a candidate's quality, into an absolute farce.
Remember it’s nick...
I’m trying to remember if I have ever learned anything from an opening or closing statement of a candidate.
We don’t need any more debates. Our field is set. Trump Carson Cruz Rubio. The dem “debate” proved there’s no one seriously running against Hillary. They’re going to have a hard time breaking a few million viewers next debate, unless Biden gets in.
The whole process is still run like it’s 1970.
“What they should scrap are the comments of the moderators, other than to keep track of a speaker’s time, etc..”
Strangely enough, one of the best examples of a moderator’s role in a debate was that by PBS’ Gwen Ifill, during the VP matchup between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden in 2008. She kept herself out of the mix, except to intro the candidates and keep the process moving. Though a liberal herself, she didn’t slant either way in her line of questioning. I thought she did a commendable job.
In the Me Gyn “Crowley” Kelly debate, the moderators consumed some 40% of the time.
Cut that down to 15% and ask more questions. We really need less opening statements.
Only 6 candidates on the stage will make 2 hours plenty of time.
2 minute final statement, that is 12 minutes total with 6 candidates, that would be OK too.
No allowing Candidates to talk long cut them off. We don’t want windbags. And this pertains to the Moderators too.
Keep this moving. Have a timekeeper
Leni
Problem is no matter how tightly moderated, the candidates too often just ramble down their same list of soundbites. After one or two debates it’s a pointless exercise.
