Given the state of our “American Culture”, do you really think it is a badge of honor to be “completely in touch” with it?

How could someone who has never even heard of a major Hollywood celebrity be able to form any worthwhile opinion on the state of American culture, good or bad?

Do you realize how ignorant it sounds to say, "The entertainment industry is destroying our country! I don't know who they are, what movies they make or what songs they sing but it's all bad!" You've got to know who these people are first.

Is this not just her blowing smoke to appease the PC crowd?

IMHO Bale likely got more because he was a more seasoned actor, had paid his dues, and played a larger, top-bill role.

If she used obscenity in her self-depreciation, then IMHO she comes off as misandrist, immature and jealous.

She acknowledges other motivations in her acceptance of the offer.

Agents get percentages and want to retain top clients due to the possibility of future repeat business. The market tends to dictate the pay.

When Bale was 25 he starred in a relatively obscure TV movie (Treasure Island) which probably does not generate much back end revenue. Women actors have a shorter shelf life, but in the end IMHO this is primarily due to biology, not discrimination.

If she did not want to seem “difficult” or “spoiled” back then, she may have done a good job of catching up on that now.

Nonsense. Did we know the names of every Nazi we killed in WWII? Or every terrorist maggot we’ve killed since 9/11? We knew what groups they belonged to and what that group stood for. Same for Hollywood. Anyone with a brain knows what Hollywood stands for. Why waste time “learning” about these people. Those with a clue, have known enough for decades. This blonde bimbo is no different than the blonde bimbos from decades passed. Knowing her name is for mindless losers. Wake up.

She's certainly managed to get John Nolte's dander up.

I liked her best when she wasn’t wearing her threads.

I didn’t read, from what I read, of her claiming to being a victim. Just that ‘she’ screwed up. Her words. And it sounds like to me, that she has one: recognized the problem, and two: has committed herself to rectifying it in the future.

Good for her.

Bale and Cooper were bigger stars than Lawrence and Adams at the time. They had done the Batman and Hangover trilogies. Renner was in Avengers, where even as a supporting role, a movie of that size made him as big a star as the others. Lawrence had only done one Hunger Games movie that could be described as a blockbuster. Amy Adams definitely had a weaker box office history than any of them though. So I maybe would have bumped Lawrence up a million between Adams and the men.

Check out ‘Winter’s Bone’. Plays a Kentucky girl from the hills taking care of family.

And Jennifer is a Kentucky Woman.

I’d recommend reading Usher II from Ray Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles”. He was writing about you.

How do you know it’s so bad if you’re so out of touch? Really it’s not that tough to keep up on the basics of what’s going on. Just a little bit of paying attention. If you don’t pay attention, well think what else you’re missing.

Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 1 Corinthians 3:18

Eat this fruit...if ya don’t....”just think what else you’re missing?!!”...come on...get with it...be like the gods!

You don’t have to know all their names, just the snatches of imagery and commentary alone are enough. Their stupid vague comments overheard on a talk show informs one of where things are going. It gets hard to remember their names but one can note their libertine repetitive messages as one blurs from one celebrity to another. I heard some actress wax poetic on her support of gay marriage. Do I remember her name, nope...but her message got thru loud and clear. That is what I MEAN by being able to gage the drift of the culture. If Christian orthodoxy informs ones conscience, it doesn’t take more than a few minutes of looking at dominant media to see where things are going! Most actors and actress’s names deserve to be forgotten,,,and quickly! I resist the notion that one has to “bite the fruit just to know what the gods are up to”!

You don’t have to eat it. But you should be aware. A culture is always going to produce good and bad. If you live in a cave you miss both.

Ironic....you mentioned a cave and it reminded me about Plato’s work based on Socrates and his “Dialogs”...”The Cave” whereupon one found one-self confined to a chair watching shadows of what was supposedly real life flickering on the cave wall. A realization was reached(he doesn’t say how which was a weakness in his treatise) that it wasn’t the shadows on the cave wall that were important, nor was the 3 dimensional activity occurring behind the viewer(that was lit by light streaming from the cave opening...hence the shadows on the wall)...but rather one needed to break one’s bonds of ignorance, escaping the chair and the shadows on the wall, and ignore the “real life” activity that was projected onto the wall by the light, and instead escape the cave and walk out into the light itself where the truth really exists!

Agree or disagree about Socrates’ views...when a person was forced to drink poison or be killed or exiled, it makes a reader take notice as to what he said that made folks so angry with him!

Which is actually a good argument FOR sticking your head up and looking around. It’s a big world, lots of “culture” is made every day, some of it is pretty awesome, and you’ll never find out about it if all you’re doing is looking at the shadows and chanting “it sucks”.

Reality exists, cultures develop or decay....it’s the informed conscience that tells one what “sucks and what doesn’t”. Guess what;(?)...looking at the recent supreme court decisions, the moral decay seen evident in dominant media culture, the rising frictions between population groups being stoked by politicians and globalists intent on dissolving our great nation, I would say it all sucks to be us right now and we are no better as a nation than the murderous Muzzie thugs who would seek to invade and destroy us from the inside out!

You almost have to admire and respect the radical Muzzies in a way...they at least know what they are about and what they intend to do, even willing to suicide themselves to do it. I’m not saying one should admire and respect them especially in respect to what they do to women and their children! Yet with what the progressives are morally trying to do to our children thru the public schools which evokes no strong moral outrage from good people(and I mean fighting mad moral outrage), I have to conclude that we are really no better than the muzzie thugs and that our nation’s culture totally sucks and is rotten to the core!

An informed conscience doesn’t need more than 15 minutes exposure to our “culture” to know that there is “something rotten in the state “of the American Union! America is stuck in a “cave of darkness” and our enemies(foreign and domestic) would like to seal us in permanently!

Why do you think Jim Robinson formed Free Republic....?(why are you here?) He formed it to try to be a counter to the “cultural darkness” trying to smother our nation. He is trying to keep truth alive!

But you have to be informed. If you refuse to look up and see the world you don’t really know what’s out there. And cultural output has always had a bad signal to noise ratio. Sturgeons Law (90% of everything is crap) always applies. We forget that when we look historically because the crap has a short shelf life.

You won’t get rid of cultural darkness by refusing to light a candle. You have to focus on, and reward with an audience, the 10% that isn’t crap. If you hide from it all you’re letting the darkness win.
