Well this came out of nowhere. After years of pleading from PC enthusiasts, Microsoft finally revealed an ultra-premium Surface laptop, dubbed Surface Book, at its hardware event on Tuesdaya portable PC designed to embrace Windows 10s most cutting-edge features, and one thats just oozing style.
If the Surface Pro is a tablet that can replace your laptop, as Microsofts marketing crowed last year, does that make the Surface laptop a laptop that can replace your tablet that replaces your laptop?
Not quite. Both aim for different targets. While the Surface tablets were initially introduced to highlight the sort of mobile 2-in-1 experiences possible with the touch-friendly Windows 8, the 13.5-inch Surface Book showcases what traditional PC makers can achieve with Windows 10.
What if we can do for laptops what we did for tablets? Microsoft device chief Panos Panay wondered aloud on stage. We made the ultimate laptop. We made the Surface Book.

I was watching on TWIT...This Week In Tech...and either Leo Laporte or Mike Elgin commented that during the event Apple dropped one point. I don’t know if he was kidding but the event was impressive.
Microsoft vs Apple provocateur ping!
3, 2, 1...
Since the SurfaceBook is supposedly manufactured by MS I wonder how that is going to tick off Lenovo, Asus, HP, Dell etcetera.
And it won’t break either.
I’ll bet it runs really hot with an i7 and the nvidia gpu on board.
IIRC they said it used liquid cooling. I’m NOT a fan of that. They DID say the two new Lumia phones use liquid cooling.
How the heck is that done?
After their superfish spyware fiasco, I’d be very wary of purchasing anything with the Lenovo name on it.
I didn’t buy the Yoga, I would never buy a Lenovo product myself. Someone at my company purchased a few without asking my advice and I had to do IT support on them.
Already on one of them the screen went out, probably due to that design flaw with the hinge. Luckily I was able to fix it by cracking it open and reseating the connection from the screen to the motherboard. Otherwise, I would have been searching for a replacement screen too. Laptop wasn’t even a month old too!
The tablet is 100% solid state....with no optical drives nor spinning hard drive..
Speeds are hard to explain...even faster than a phone..IMO...
Rumor has it, in heavy snow, you can slide it under your wheel for traction and then surf the web. It’s Chuck Norris approved.
I may have drunk the Apple Koolaid BUT competition is where it is at in bringing new and better to market! Attaboy Microsoft!
That’s just a rumor though because it’s too slick to get traction on snow. Although you can use it as a body board at the ocean.
It’s internal liquid cooling I’m sure. It probably has a system that pumps the liquid over the CPU/GPU and then moves it to the cooler locations of the phone. If you ever used a Nokia 920 you know they needed to find a better cooling solution...those things get HOT. Liquid cooling in a phone makes a lot of sense to me.
CAN IT RUN WINDOWS 7 ???
The one I would get is this but.... it is a bit expen$ive.
You would think they would throw in the keyboard at the prices they charge.
Surface Pro 4 US pricing (without $129 keyboard cover)
Processor Memory Storage
$899 Core m3 4GB 128GB
$999 Core i5 4GB 128GB
$1,299 Core i5 8GB 256GB
$1,599 Core i7 8GB 256GB
$1,799 Core i7 16GB 256GB
$2,199 Core i7 16GB 512GB
Since MS and Google have kissed and made up...the lawsuits dismissed...it is very likely.
Shocking....I don’t like it any better than a MacBook. MuSoft should stick with styling PC people like. Mac people aren’t going to want it no matter what it looks like, and PC people don’t want a wannabe Mac.
