Back in Donald Trump's booming heyday, a car couldn't get much flashier, much more outlandish, much more... Trump than a Lamborghini Diablo. Turns out he actually owned one a 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT roadster, to be specific, like the one pictured above. And now it's up for sale.
Donald Trump Lamborghini DiabloThis VT roadster is one of just 200 or so that were made before the 1999 facelift. It featured the Viscous Traction (viscous-fluid coupling) all-wheel drive system that debuted on the Diablo VT, and the carbon-fiber roof panel could be removed and stowed over the engine cover. Short of the Ferrari 575M Superamerica with the Fioravanti-designed flip-top, we could hardly imagine a more fitting set of wheels for the mogul.
Bear in mind that the Diablo was developed when the company was owned by Chrysler which would not, of course, prove the last time Chrysler would be in bed with an Italian automaker. This one was built after the brand was sold to a Malaysian company (before it was absorbed into the Volkswagen Group). And in those days, Lamborghini was closely allied with US-based supercar manufacturer Vector Motors. The Diablo was about as American as an Italian supercar could be.
Trump's is finished in French Racing Blue and appears to be in pristine condition. It's now been adorned with Trump stickers, seemingly well-documented as having belonged to Trump himself, and formerly registered in Palm Beach, FL. It's being sold by one Michael Digonis in New York via The Drive, who is asking $299,000 for it. That is a lot, but considering the celebrity provenance it could prove a sound investment especially if Trump wins the Republican nomination and the general election next year.
Added touch!
That sissy blue is Trump's ?
I'd dump it, too
I wonder if it wasn’t actually for a wife or other female.
The color definitely doesn't go with his hair
With the *logo*....it was probably a business expense/write-off.
I could see having it in Florida....but not for transportation in NYC. Heh.
Gorgeous car! I don’t know much about cars, but I’d take it, if it were offered.
I have a relative who had one of these. I was envious. It is a “hot” looking car.
Just to be clear..it wasn’t the one Trump has..it was the regular Joe Diablo.
If it can’t haul a 4x8 sheet of decking, what good is it?
Amen !!
And he didn’t have to sell murdered babies organs to buy it.
I can’t see a Lamborghini now and not think of that woman from Planned Parenhood.
Media spin: Trump is holding a garage sale to finance his quixotic presidential campaign. Story at 10!
That’s NICE
Having driven the Diablo and a few other “supercars” I found that the Diablo was a handful to drive even on the expressway. It required constant correction and didn’t track well. It was blisteringly fast, and had major low end grunt. It took time to learn to drive it.
The Ferrari Testarossa of the same time period was not quite as fast, but much easier to drive, and more predictable in the corners and in my humble opinion, a more fun car to drive.
The trouble with a car that costs $2 million is that you can’t really “drive” it. You are looking at your investment depreciate, the risks to it, etc. So you never really tap it’s potential.
heh heh
This model sold new for $350+ in ‘97. It apparently hasn’t belonged to DT for a long time.
He’s a very generous man and keeps that under the radar. Years ago he flew a child, free of charge, on his private jet to get a treatment that prevented him from flying commercial. He also helped Sargeant Tamoressi financially. Trump did this long before his presidential aspirations.
That stated: Wouldn’t the libs and their media go nuts if he donated the proceeds to Chris Mintz and/or his autistic son?
