Does anyone have any ideas what can be done with old 78 rpm records? It seems such a shame to throw them out as some are in pretty good shape. I just cannot keep them anymore.

We're all here, we've all got dates. We'll dance all night to the 78's.

I see that some people are giving some stupid responses and advice. Here are the facts: 78 rpm records are valuable as they are. They ARE NOT obsolete.

eBay. They’re probably worth something - time to do some Net research.

Had Xavier Cugat and his Orchestra along with another 78 of Merv Griffin performing “The Old Lamp Lighter Of Long, Long Ago”—both on Columbia red labels. Ah, memories! Hate to see them go away.

Thanks for the suggestions. There is an old record store in the area. He doesn't want 78’s. I have lots of Glenn Miller, Harry James, Bing Crosby, Patti Page, Gene Krupa, Rosemary Clooney, etc. Most are scratchy. I also have lots of Peter Pan kids 78’s from when we were all young. They are really heavy and brittle. I have read they are difficult to send as they break really easily. I don't sell on EBay and Craigslist isn't remotely appealing. I suppose I will end up at the Salvation Army. At least they might be able to find someone who can still enjoy them.

If they’re in good shape you could have them appraised. There is definitely a market for these things in the proper condition, and there’s so few of them left that you might have something that a collector really wants. They can be worth a buck for real.

If your record collection includes
Stormy Weather by the Five Sharps (Jubilee #5104), from 1952, my advice would be to keep it.

What type of music? I actually acquired a lot of albums from an old family friend who was downsizing, a lot of old 50’s and 60’s music: Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams. And a lot of Christmas albums as well as some local interest stuff that I didn’t think ANYONE would be interested in. I posted a lot of these online on eBay and actually got a lot of sales from them - $3 or $4 dollars a piece plus shipping, but I got rid of them like this and hoped that someone got some enjoyment from them.
