9/24 Levin list of actors who were in the Armed Forces?
Posted on 09/24/2015 5:31:44 PM PDT by West Texas Chuck
He had a list of people I remembered. I had no idea about some of them, a lot oh yeah, I mean I know about Audie Murphy, but some of those were quite unexpected. I actually teared up a couple of times from old memories not seen since at least the early 70s.
I need a link people.
And I had no idea Lee Marvin was in Arlington, She Who Must Be Obeyed and I would have paid him some respect the way we did that Texas boy, when we were up yonder.

This ain't the same country it once was, I am shamed to say.
Yeah, call me Captain Obvious, but something about that really drove it home to me. That and a coworker starting in on me early this morning about what "bigots Trump and Carson are." It was like he was reading an email from frickin' Daily Kos or something. But not to worry, I deal with this guy every day, ain't skeered.

Very few people got out of fighting in WW2, the big one. Most of the actors of that generation served, with a few exceptions.

Jimmy Stewart is probably one of the most well known. Even after the war he was in the reserves.

Audie Murphy loved the army - he got plenty of fresh, good food when he had grown up in an (if memory is right) abandoned railway car with only jam and bread to eat. Truly, the poorest of the Depression poor.

Audie Murphy was a farm boy and lived in a farm house and ate about the same as most farm people.

Don't know if he was on Levin's list or not but here's one that really surprised me.
Lieutenant colonel (Ret.) USMC, Rob Riggle.

John Wayne didn’t serve but he did wonders for morale and the troops liked him a lot.

When you pay your respects to Lee Marvin, you’ll find boxer Joe Louis right next to him.

You know, that is a mighty good point. I’ve never been hungry. I mean, I’ve been hungry and then I went to the fridge and made a sammich.
I never been hungry like my daddy’s daddy. But this old world ain’t through with me yet, I’ll get back to ya :)
