I'll leave coverage of the substance of the GOP debate to others. I want to talk about the style of the participants--who was the best, most appealing speaker?
Chris Christie spoke too quickly, making himself appear nervous. Perhaps he was nervous, because he was on the verge of being eliminated from the grownups debate.
John Kasich has no eyebrows and his face looks partially melted, making himself look like a space alien. He spoke a lot but he didn't seem to make a whole lot of sense.
Carly Fiorina was forceful and articulate. She also looked stern and had this sour look on her face, like a constantly angry schoolmarm. She almost never smiled or had any warmth in her voice.
Ben Carson reminded me of blind David Patterson, the former Governor of New York who was very soft spoken. He talked about important things, but how can you speak with passion about the dangers of a nuclear Iran when you talk in such a soft tone?
Donald Trump was amusing as always and seemed like a character actor. Not exactly Presidential, more like Peter Falk from Columbo.
Ted Cruz was the best. He looked the camera right in the eye, and spoke with a clear, firm voice that had a sense of urgency.
Rand Paul was not great or terrible, but seemed to whine when he talked about drugs.
Scott Walker wasn't bad but he actually spoke the least in the debate. He has this weird way of staring into the camera with one eye but the other is a little off center making it look like he has a glass eye (which he doesn't.)
They showed Mike Huckabee often from a sideview and it wasn't flattering. He looks severely overweight but he did speak with passion. Marco Rubio spoke with a sense of urgency about foreign policy but there also seemed to be a note of desperation in his presentation.
Jeb Bush was definitely higher energy, but he had this weird habit of moving his head when he talked. As he talked at length I saw his head move left and right, right and left, and left and right like windshield wipers. I suppose he was trying to look at all the audience, but when the most important audience was behind a camera his movements seemed weird.
Overall Ted Cruz was the best. Carly had forceful moments but as I said she was not very likeable. Marco and even Jeb had moments too.
Nice!!!
I am so hoping Cruz gets a chance to shine in the months ahead!
He needs jackets with shorter sleeves and shirts with longer sleeves. Just MHO.
Here’s my rundown:
Trump did not do anything to hurt himself, but did nothing to help. I don’t think he is Presidential. I don’t trust Carly, but she did the best job in speaking. Christie and Rubio upped their stock with me. Huckabee was good, i mean he was a talk show host so he should be. Rand Paul was forgettable as was, unfortunately, Scott walker. Kasick represents the past and Bush? OVER MY DEAD BODY. Carson should not even be there.
Huckabee properly schooled the audience and the other candidates on the proper role of the supreme court. He did this in reference to the same-sex marriage ruling. The rest of the candidates and the questioners didn’t seem to want to touch the subject of supreme court overstep.
The blond anchorwoman. The guys don’t really do anything for me. And Carly...well lets just say Trump has a point about persona, plus she’s 61.
Very good.
I think Trump is intending to abolish or bust up the VA and send veterans to regular hospitals with medicare like insurance. It would be much cheaper and much more effective.
Seriously, man, come on...
I haven’t given an opinion on Christie. The article is from News Machete.
Ah, jeez—sorry.
A few days before the debate, he told us he's was probably going to make nice at this debate...and for the most part, he did.
He complimented Carly's looks, he was nice to Jeb, very nice to Carson, nice to Hugh Hewitt.
The reason for his being "nice" is because he knew everyone was going to attack, so he, by being nice, created a situation in which his opponents risked appearing as bullies.
In transactional terms, when he flattered Carly and she still looked bitter and dour, the impression was not lost on the audience (even if it was only noticed subconsciously).
It made him appear likable and made her appear angry.
I liked the idea of Vets receiving care wherever they choose. That would solve the problem of the awful VA.
Is Jeb bush crossed eyed?
Me too. That’s a great idea...and so simple rather than having a massive VA to administer.
Thanks. Hadn’t been to Drudge yet.
Thanks for all that info on Carly. She’s even worse than I thought.
Until Donald Trump can figure out how to make a single point without a) bragging about himself, and b) taking a shot at someone else then he will remain a clown candidate.
Carly came across, much Hillary does, as a angry woman who needs to prove they are somehow tough. They do it to the point that you think they are looking for a Penis transplant so they can accomplish this.
At least twice in the debate on questions regarding the Middle East and Putin Carly had the well worn rehearsed answer, She would call her buddy Bibi and send out the 6th Fleet. Somehow I might be more worried about her finger in the Nuclear Button that I would Trump and same goes for Hillary.
ahahaha I was going to look at the transcript for tje SHOW...[ I wont call it a debate ] and count the number of times The Prospective Candidate form NYC..used the I word but thought better of wasting several hours of my precious time in so doing.
Im willing to bet that per minute .....he may well have “out I-ed” Barack Mohammad Hussein Obama.
he Prospective Candidate form NYC WAS a real fiasco!!
