Rare factoid about Bay City Rollers is that the combined bench press of the entire band was 250 pounds.

Another factoid: They got their name by throwing a dart at a map of the United States and it landed on Bay City Michigan.............

Another Factoid: The legendary Ramones got the inspiration for “Blitzkrieg Bop” from the Bay City Roller’s “Saturday Night.” They LOVED the chant at the beginning “S..A..TUR.. DAY...NIGHT!” and turned it into the “Hey..Ho...LET’s GO!” The Ramones aspired to be bubblegum pop sensations, but were just too twisted to pull it off. Instead, they invented punk rock.

For about 15 minutes, they probably were bigger than the Beatles. Them and about a dozen other acts that came and went during the 1970s. "Bigger than the Beatles" was tossed around a lot during those years but nobody ever measured up over the long term.
I was a freshman in high school the year they hit it big in America. I remember all the girls going nuts over them. They called it "Rollermania". Four about four months that was all you heard about. The school was half empty the day they rolled into Boston for a concert. Then suddenly, they were gone from the scene and somebody named Shaun Cassidy became the next teen idol.
Nice memory from the 1970s however. I had almost forgotten all about them. Other than "Saturday Night", I have a hard time coming up with another song by them without going to Google.

“For crying out loud, man, this isn’t brain surgery.”
“Don’t get crazy over this, Dick. We’re only talking about a damn deejay.”

I was a young adult at that time. I remember Irish bartenders in NYC singing their praises. I don’t remember a single song on the jukebox!
