Trump is right not taking on the Kim Davis Issue
Vanity | 9/3/2015 | Dr. James Schulze, D.Min. (PEARUSA)

Posted on 09/04/2015 7:10:11 AM PDT by theoldmarine

Donald Trump is taking a lot of heat from people who would like to see him support the dear lady, Kim Davis, in Kentucky. Those same people, if they think about it are asking him to commit political suicide. Trump is right, for now. Sorry. Everyone, and I include myself, is disappointed, but not surprised that 4 liberal justices and one who has always been sympathetic to the 'queer class' decided that homosexuals are a minority and deserve the protection of law and equal rights. They have also ruled that the crucial parts of the 'Defense of Marriage Act' are unconstitutional. Deal with it like adults fellas. The lady in Kentucky has every right to 'civil disobedience', if that's what it is. Others say that she is the only one actually obeying the law. In other words there is no Kentucky Statute authorizing her to give a license to a homosexual couple. She may be right on that, but it will be a long slog through the courts to prove it, by which time the election will be decided. Civil disobedience on a massive scale however would not reverse the legal process. The only way that marriage will ever be legally defined as 'between a man and a woman' in the country again would be through an amendment to the constitution, which is not going to happen when you consider the demographics, the support for and promotion of LGBT in the media and educational system, and the Federal bureaucracy. Or, perhaps, a few states could try seceding again. Donald is smart. He wants to get elected. We can't be dumb enough to ask him to die for what is, unfortunately, a lost cause. The problem here is that absolute moral judgements, not backed by the authority of divinity are just strong opinions. And, in the court of public opinion and in the court of law the opinion that gays should be denied marriage benefits has lost; and we no longer have a majority of people in this country who are committed to the absolute authority of the God revealed in the Bible. If you want to turn this country around in a moral sense... get off of Trump and get on your knees. In the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley is a Bible that he treasured and got from his mother. In it's glass case the book is opened and verses are underlined... they read... "...if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chron 7:14

I remember when G Snuffleupagus brought it into the debate.
This issue will work for dems and the GOPe

Also, remember, you can’t legislate morality.

I hate that statement. That is concentrated stupidity. Laws are nothing BUT "Legislated Morality." That is the ESSENCE of what a law is.

When people say "you can't legislate morality." What they mean is "You can't legislate morality that I don't agree with."

We are going to get legislated morality. We will ALWAYS get legislated morality. The only question about this is "Who's morality are we going to have forced upon us? "

Cruz has a 96% rating at CR. The only senator with 100% is Mike Lee. Rubio is 80%, McConnell, I believe, is 52% the last time I checked. If you want a conservative Senator,
Cruz is definitely the guy.

Cruz said he is a free trader and voted for that reason. He did not vote yes on the second bill.

Of course, we armchair legislators here at FR would be perfect were we to stick our necks out and run for office and endure the slings and arrows.

~smile, I read it and agree with you. If we are a nation of laws, then you don’t pick and choose which laws to abide by, you change the laws that are wrong.

The way the Germans did between 1933 and 1945.

Your post is quite reasonable.

The war concerning SSM is never over, but you have to pick your time and place to re-engage in the fight. Given the way things are at present, this is the wrong place at the wrong time. Sure, engage in the war now where it is private actors against the state (i.e. the bakers and florists) and certainly engage in it now with your church, where some benefit may definitely accrue, and where you may gain the support of others. But as a Constitutional issue, or a licensing issue, the battle has been lost, for now, and the circumstances for re-engagement are not favorable at this time.

If you actually believe that this country will hold together in its present legalistic form (i.e. not become dictatorship of some sort, which is the historical rule for democracies/republics), then you would understand that USSC decisions can be overruled, but that it requires time and a change in circumstances. In some cases, like Bowers, the general populace was already heading towards an opposite position to the ruling, so less time was needed. In other cases, like Plessy, you had to wait nearly 50 years before the circumstances arose for the fight. In even other cases, like the Income Tax case and Dred Scott, you needed support for a constitutional amendment, even war.

Think about it, if Rosa Parks had pulled her stunt in Alabama in 1925, as opposed to 1955, she would have been lynched, and no one would have cared.

I fail to see how judging homosexual marriage to be “legal” creates a civil right (as I understand civil rights) that compels anyone to issue license or perform a ceremony.

If we allow Christians to be jailed while we argue semantics, it won’t be long before our Ministers and Priests start being jailed.

It was a most sobering and depressing revelation for me when I began to realize that modern-day “conservatives” are basically just as cowering and spineless as the public at large. I think my mistake was always utilizing for a blueprint the conservatives from generations past that I knew growing up. They would be fighting this sick nonsense tooth and nail, regardless of difficult or unseeming a victory lies ahead.

Agreed. The "Greatest Generation" would have quickly put this nonsense to rout, and punished all involved in pushing it on us.

We are not that society any more.

Trump could lock up the base if he’d take a stand.

Only he doesn’t believe as the base does, which is what we’ve been trying to tell you people for months now.

This “thing” called America is a boeing 777 on fire and nose-diving headed straight for a mountain....without parachutes for those on board.

What’s happening here is spiritual and folks had better wake up.

I’ve been enjoying Trump’s antics up until now, but have held off from declaring any support for him, mainly because I don’t fully trust and believe in him.

But now that I have seen his milquetoast response on Kim Davis, I am less inclined to support him. However, it doesn’t mean I’ll stop enjoying his other antics in sticking it to the uniparty.

Im going to ask a simple question... why did the state take by force the term “Marriage” from Religion?

The state could just as easily grant all the same state granted right and privileges under “Civil Union” as Marriage

Civil Union would just leave out the sexual component so any group of people can make the same legal arrangement.. even a brother and sister....

Wrong. Every state that actually got to vote on the issue voted "Absolutely not!". This was forced on the American people by judicial activists. The people were never allowed their voice.

Pull anyone aside, and in private they'll tell you the truth about how they really feel about this issue. They tried to speak behind the curtain in the voting booths, but the Judaical activists considered themselves Gods among men and gave us their commands despite what the people wanted.

What you see and hear from the talking heads is called propaganda. Everyone thinks everyone else supports homos, so they're forced to agree verbally even though they disagree in their own conscience.

Homo "tolerance" will go down in history as one of the biggest lies ever told.

Political Correctness was designed to silence people from speaking out against every left wing voting block and it's agenda. Period.
Name one right wing voting block protected by Political Correctness. You can't. Their aren't any. It's all POLITICAL.
PC has nothing to do with the majority.

The SCOTUS didn’t issue a decree that “gay marriage is legal”. Rather, they passed a decision that any law restricting gay marriage is a violation of civil rights, and therefore unconstitutional.

So quite frankly, the SCOTUS created a civil right...I’m sure they will say it was always there, and they just found it in some dusty corner of the constitution - this is why Kennedy tried to wordsmith his decision to equate marriage = dignity - civil right.

Other than that, I think we are in agreement - its downright evil to jail this woman.

But this does bring up some serious questions/issues over federal vs state power. I just can’t imagine the founding fathers approving of this abuse of federal power.
