While reading about that clerk, a thought occurred to me. Suppose a devout Muslim was a cook at a government cafeteria. And suppose pork chops were on the menu that day. Would the muslim be forced to handle the pork chops, or would he be excused from that particular duty?
Local bakers here will not necessarily commit to visiting the site. Still, that is before the wedding and at a reception venue....although I doubt most gay weddings will be done in a church.
Then she should find another job. It’s that simple.
What if the head of the DMV decided to not give licenses to women cause he was Muslim?
RE: Unless and until they try to force private persons or churches to participate
What is this “unless and until” thing you talk about? You talk as if this is a theoretical thing when bakers and photographers are ALREADY BEING FINED and THREATENED with banckruptcy for refusing to participate in a gay wedding ceremony.
RE: Then she should find another job. Its that simple.
As I said, the above is ONE OPTION. The other option is to choose to accept the penalty for standing up to her conscience and to make a public statement.
Many Christians in the past ( up to and including very recently as in Martin Luther King Jr. ) have chosen the option she chose.
She chose that option and should not be criticized for that ( not by fellow Christians ).
RE: What if the head of the DMV decided to not give licenses to women cause he was Muslim?
well, like Kim Davis, he has several options.
1) RESIGN ( as you said, the simpler option )
2) BE FIRED
3) Refuse to leave and be dragged out, fined or go to jail.
All of the above are valid, non-violent options.
The third one makes a public statement and is the least simple option.
The man has many choices.
The first makes a public statement, too. But not as big.
But this isn’t MLK. This protest will not change anything. The American people, by and large, don’t care. Two people love each other and want to be able to make medical decisions, have the right not to testify against, file joint taxes, etc.
Some may not agree with gays being gay, but I don’t see that being changes by acts like this.
RE: But this isnt MLK. This protest will not change anything.
I am not sure I want to make that conclusion just yet. The fight against judicial tyranny ( and all other forms ) usually start with small things.
My position is that by invalidating all state laws against gay marriage they ruled the states incapable of passing any marriage laws and she has no basis under the law (which were unconstitutionally stuck down by the supreme court) to issue any any marriage license until told what the laws are. Marry gay people is not a law but an opinion. Also the attempt to make her is establishing a unconstitutional religious test for office.
Here’s a scenario that’s a bit closer.
Suppose a Wiccan was the county clerk and refused to issue any hunting or fishing licenses.
No suppose other employees said they would issue hunting and fishing licenses but the Wiccan clerk said no, since the clerks name would be on the license.
So now no hunting or fishing licenses will be issued by that particular office period.
People can still get a license from another county provided they’re willing to drive to the next county.
However they do pay taxes to the county to hire a clerk to issue licenses that they are now being refused.
You may think you are however Christians have a duty to resist immoral laws. Many Christians died resisting immoral laws. They were real Christians.
Your compromise was rejected by the sodomites. The county judge offered to sign their "marriage license" but they insisted the county clerk sign it. They live in Ohio and are on a mission to destroy this Kentucky clerk. Christianity is the sodomites enemy and they will not rest until every Christian belief is outlawed.
